New Maserati GranTurismo available immediately in three flavors
Those who place an order for a new Maserati GranTurismo put people to work in Italy, as production takes place at the Mirafiori plant in Turin. There is a choice of two gasoline versions and an all-electric version. In the following paragraphs, we explain the different versions. At least they have the name Maserati GranTurismo Modena, GranTurismo Trofeo and GranTurismo Folgore.
Maserati GranTurismo Modena and Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo
The Maserati GranTurismo Modena and Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo feature a V6 Nettuno engine. The Modeno has a 490-hp 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno Twin Turbo. The Trofeo variant kicks it up to 550 hp.
100% electric: Maserati GranTurismo Folgore
There is also the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, with a 100% electric powertrain. The Folgore system operates with a voltage of 800 volts and features technology from Formula E. The car provides three powerful 300 kW permanent magnet electric motors that transmit to the wheels a combined output of about 760 hp. The battery pack has a capacity of 92.5 kWh.
Thanks to the specific set-up and layout of the battery pack, the height of the car was limited to 1,353 mm, also good for the car’s center of gravity. The battery pack has a “T-bone” shape. Instead of under the seats, the battery modules are gathered in and around the central tunnel. This also kept the car’s center of gravity low.
Riding modes
The combustion engine versions (Modena and Trofeo) have four driving modes, namely Comfort, GT, Corsa and an ESC-Off option to turn off all electronic aids. The electric Folgore has other driving modes, namely Max Range, GT, Sport and Corsa. In “Max Range” mode – preferably engaged when battery levels fall below 16 percent – top speed is limited to 130 km/h and air conditioning operation is minimized. In GT, powertrain output is at a maximum of 80 percent. In Sport and Corsa, though, 100 percent of the power is available.
Aluminum and magnesium
To achieve the lowest possible weight, Maserati uses lightweight materials such as aluminum and magnesium, combined with ultra-strong steel. Also new is the Atlantis High architecture of the electrical system and electronics, where information from the canFD data communication is transmitted at a speed of less than 2 milliseconds. The system has advanced cyber-security (level 5) and flash-over-the-air features.
Vehicle Domain Control Module
Developed entirely by Maserati, the Vehicle Domain Control Module (VDCM) consists of software with 360-degree control of the main systems to ensure that the car offers the best driving experience under all conditions. The dashboard of the Maserati GranTurismo is equipped with a Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) multimedia system. It consists of two touch screens (12.3 and 8.8-inches), a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a digital clock and a head-up display (soon to be available as an option). Photos of the interior have unfortunately not yet been released by Maserati.
Engine noise, also in Folgore
The GranTurismo offers an “all-round sound experience” thanks to the engine sound of the V6 Nettuno engine – even in the electric Folgore. Completing the sound experience is a high-end 3D audio system developed by the Italian sound experts at Sonus faber. The audio system comes in two versions, with up to 19 speakers and 3D sound with an output of 1,195 W, for deep and full sound. The standard audio system consists of 14 speakers, with a maximum output 800 watts. The optional audio system consists of 19 speakers with a maximum output 1195 watts.
PrimaSeries 75th Anniversary Launch Edition
Maserati kicks off with a GranTurismo PrimaSeries 75th Anniversary Launch Edition, a limited series with exclusive features, in tribute to the Maserati A6 1500 celebrating its 75th anniversary. Whether the new GranTurismo will remain in production as long as the previous generation remains to be seen. The previous generation appeared on the market in 2007 and was built until 2019. Maserati has sold more than 40,000 units of the models: 28,805 GranTurismo’s and 11,715 GranCabrio’s. A convertible (GranCabrio) of the new generation GranTurismo is also expected to return.
Colors Maserati GranTurismo
During the market launch, Maserati will provide six colors, namely Bianco, Grigio Maratea, Grigio Maratea Matte, Nero Ribelle, Blu Emozione, Blu Nobile. Of course, the customer can choose any color through the Maserati Fuoriserie personalization program, for a fee, of course.
