New Lexus RZ has state-of-the-art heating system
Lexus RZ
The new RZ is the first Lexus model to benefit from the new type of heating. How exactly does it work? At home or in your car, a normal heater heats the air around you, making you nice and warm. At home, a central heating boiler and radiators provide warm air, and in your car, the heater radiator uses engine temperature to warm the interior. In electric cars, an electric heater and/or heat pump provides this. In the new Lexus RZ, things are very different.
Infrared heating
In the new RZ, at the front of the interior are two panels that use infrared radiation to heat only solid objects in front of them. So it does not heat the air. This warms the driver and front passenger faster than conventional climate control systems. You may know a similar system from an infrared sauna.
Less energy
Radiant heating not only heats occupants faster, it also uses about 8 percent less energy. This is because the system only needs to release heat where it is needed. This is nice for the car’s range.
Blanket
There are also two heat emitters at knee height, making it feel like you have a warm blanket on your legs. Should you make physical contact with a panel, the temperature automatically drops, so you don’t suddenly get very hot.
Top model
In addition to the modern heater, there is also a normal heater in the new RZ. It doesn’t have to work as hard as long as the radiant heating is on. In addition, occupants can, of course, keep warm via seat and steering wheel heating. For now, the state-of-the-art heater is only in the Lexus RZ 450e President Line, the top-of-the-line Lexus RZ model.
