MG introduces this Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born competitor this year

June 28, 2022

Newcomer

Meet the MG4 Electric. With this brand new compact hatchback, MG wants to lure Europeans out of a Volkswagen, Renault or Cupra. The C-segmenter is available with a 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery, good for a range of 350 and 450 kilometers respectively (WLTP). MG is currently conducting final tests of the new model, which is expected to hit the market in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Dimensions

The MG4 is 4.28 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 1.50 meters high. This makes it a few inches longer than an ID.3, Born and the Megane E-Tech Electric. As with Volkswagen Group models, the electric motor in the MG4 is in the rear. If you opt for the largest battery pack, the electric motor produces 205 hp. Combined with the 51 kWh battery, the engine has 170 hp. The electric compact midsize car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds and achieves a top speed of 160 km/h. Later, the brand will introduce more battery variants and an all-wheel-drive MG4 is also in the pipeline.

design

The design language MG uses for its new hatchback is clearly aimed at European consumers, who love sporty hatchbacks. The front end is characterized by sharply cut headlights, a bold spoiler lip and large air intakes with vertical daytime running lights. At the rear, the MG also looks nice and sporty, thanks to a distinctive diffuser, a two-piece rear spoiler and a flared LED bar. What the MG4 Electric should cost is not yet clear. We wouldn’t be surprised if MG goes back to being well below the prices of the European brands.
