HVO diesel: these Toyota off-road vehicles will be suitable for it from 2023 onwards
The abbreviation HVO stands for “Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil. This type of diesel, in addition to vegetable oils, is also produced from waste, residual oils and fats, such as waste frying fat. Toyota says HVO diesel is becoming increasingly available in Europe. Among others in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium and Scandinavia.
Up to 90% less CO2 emissions
According to Neste – a global organization dedicated to combating climate change, including for the transportation sector – pure HVO diesel can reduceCO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil diesel. The engine hardly needs to be modified, Toyota says.
HVO dieseI: slightly more power but also consumption
The renewable diesel requires only a modification of the fuel injection system, Toyota said. This is because of the lower density of the goo. A nice touch is that the engine power increases a bit. Less fun is that diesel consumption also rises slightly.
Land Cruiser and Hilux with HVO diesel available from 2023 onwards
Starting in the first quarter of 2023, Toyota will begin production of the Land Cruiser and Hilux suitable for HVO diesel. Commercial vehicle Proace is already suitable for the renewable fuel.
