Fastest electric cars 2022

May 6, 2022

The first electric cars were limited in range and top speed. This is often limited to prevent an already not-so-large driving range from shrinking visibly when maintaining a high speed. However, newer electric cars have significant top speeds, which you can easily keep up with on the German Autobahn. In places where that is still allowed.

Fastest electric cars in the world

We list the fastest electric cars that are currently available. We start with the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. With a 761 hp electric motor and 1,050 Nm of torque, it reaches a top speed of 260 km/h and sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

The Tesla Model 3 is much less expensive, also in the Performance version, but it is faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The top speed is 261 km/h and that for a price of less than 70 mille! By the way, the larger Tesla Model X Plaid has the same top speed and even sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds.

The Lotus Evija relegates the Teslas and the Porsche to stubby stragglers when the power pedal is pressed against the floor. He can reach 320 km/h. After 9 seconds it is already at 300 km/h. There are cars that just hit 100 km/h.

The fastest electric car: 415 km/h

Now we come into the true pinnacle of electric speed champions. Fasten your belts and tighten your neck muscles in the Tesla Model S Plaid. Yep, another Tesla. It has 1,100 horsepower and that ensures a top speed of 322 km/h.

Then we come to one of the fastest electric cars in the world. That’s the Battista from Automobil Pininfarina . A design studio that has used all the knowledge and expertise for an electric super car with a top speed of 350 km/h! It is for sale for 2.6 million euros. Or better: he was, because all 150 copies built have already been sold.

Fortunately, there is another alternative and it is even faster. That’s the Aspark Owl . It reaches 400 km/h. You have to bring a lot of money to get it. There is talk of at least 3 million euros. The topper in terms of top speed is the Rimac C_Two from Croatia. It stops accelerating at 415 km/h!

Fastest electric car 0-100 km/h

Electric cars are accelerating at lightning speed. Also the ‘modal’ family cars such as the IONIQ 5 from Hyundai. You can go from zero to one hundred in 5.2 seconds and that is a value that only the fastest sports cars with a combustion engine can achieve.

It can be done much faster: blink your eyes twice and the speedometer reaches 100 km/h. For that you have to be at a Formula 1 car or at the electric Automobil Pininfarina Battista. It not only achieves the highest speed, it also sprints from zero to one hundred within 2 seconds. So do the Aspark Owl and the Rimac C_Two.

Electric sprint gun

You have to be patient for the true sprint cannon. Tesla is working on a Roadster SpaceX Package that, according to the makers, will sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 1.1 seconds! Unfortunately, there are no tires with enough grip to make that happen yet. It only worked with the use of extra air cannons, which helped to shoot the car, hence the SpaceX Package. Without the guns, the sprint time is 1.9 seconds.
