Electric Zero SR-X that will make you greedy
Silicon Valley in California has been a creative hotbed of innovators for years. The birthplace of cell phones, social media and electric mobility and, in the coming years, artificial intelligence. This is also where the largest manufacturer of electric motorcycles can be found, namely Zero Motorcycles.
Electric motorcycle sales
The brand has been on the market in Europe since 2013. Sales are modest. That may change in the future. There will come a time when no new motorcycles with internal combustion engines will be allowed to be sold. As it is now established that starting in 2035 in the European Union, the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars will be a thing of the past.
Study model from Zero and HUGE Design
With that prospect, a now unveiled study model from Zero is definitely worth looking at and looking back at. This SR-X is a design by Bill Webb’s HUGE Design, also based in California. He also outlined the contours of the now popular Zero FXE.
Development Program
The SR-X is the latest addition to the Zero Motorcycles Design the Future development program. This program brings together the most talented designers and engineers in the industry to push the boundaries of what is possible with electric motorcycles.
Zero SR-X concept bike
According to Webb, the SR-X concept bike should strike a nerve with sportbike enthusiasts. “By combining clean lines and design detail with the aggressive stance and raw performance feel of modern designed sports bikes,” the designer stated. “A ‘front-heavy’ silhouette, with mostly visible technology at the rear.”
Top speed 200 km/hour
As for that technology, the SR-X houses under its exterior the ZF75-10 electric motor from the Zero SR/S and the new, powerful ZF17.3 lithium-ion battery. In the SR/S, the electric motor offers a top speed of 200 km/h thanks to a maximum output of 82 kW (110 hp) and a hefty pulling power of 190 Nm. Charging can be done in 60 minutes. The range is about 300 km, but at purely city use and thus low speeds. But yes, the SR/S is not solely intended for that, so the range will be shorter in practice. With its design, the SR-X actually entices very sporty driving. When that comes in the future, battery technology will probably already be more efficient again.
