As a result of a new model policy whereby coupé and convertible versions are regarded as a class higher than the model on which they are based, the BMW 1 Series Coupé and Convertible continued through life as a 2 Series from the new model in 2013.
From three-cylinder to M2
The engine range started with a 136 hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, available only for petrol. After that, the engine range expands with four and six-cylinder engines for both petrol and diesel. The most powerful engine is currently the 374 hp in-line six of the M240i xDrive. Only the Coupé is available as an M model.
BMW M2 Competition
The M2 was replaced in 2018 by the M2 Competition version, as it were an updated version of the M2. The power of the six-in-line increased to 411 hp. The 0-100 sprint is now completed a tenth faster, in 4.4 to 4.2 seconds depending on the transmission. The second generation 2 Series came on the market in 2021. That is not yet available as a Convertible, a ‘thoroughbred’ M-version will undoubtedly follow at a later moment. Gran Coupe In 2019, the model range of the 2 Series was expanded even further. In addition to the regular Coupé, the Gran Coupé also appeared. As with the higher series, it is a four-door coupé. Or a sedan with a coupe-like roofline, whatever you want to call it. Incidentally, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is closely related to the new 1 Series hatchback, where the regular 2 Series Coupé and Cabrio (for the time being) are still based on the previous 1 Series and also have a completely individual appearance.more Bmw 2 Series convertible.
