Behold: this is the new Aston Martin DBR22

September 26, 2022

Selected customers

If you are interested in this beautiful Aston Martin, we have good news and bad news for you. The DBR22 is a prototype, but it does go into production. So good news! However, only “selected customers” get the chance to buy one. If you happen to already own one or more Aston Martin models, then you qualify. Otherwise, you’re out of luck. Ferrari also uses this sales strategy regularly, when they put a very exclusive model into production. So now the British, too, will be self-selecting which customers get to buy their cars.

Performance

Some of the inspiration for the DBR22 comes from the DBR1, which won the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans. You might also recognize certain elements of the 1953 DB3S in the new Aston Martin, according to the brand. An example of a design element that has returned with the reincarnation of the DB3S, for example, is the classic grille.

Bit faster

The 2022 model is a touch faster than the old race cars, though. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12, good for 715 hp and 753 Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic takes you from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and the top speed is 320 km/h. And then just hope you don’t pop a bird….

Q Division

The DBR22, built largely of carbon fiber, comes from Aston Martin‘s Q division. This is the department that makes special customer wishes come true. For example, should you want a manual transmission instead of an automatic, that is undoubtedly possible. As long as you bring a big bag of money, of course. Even without special requests, you should bring a big bag of money. The official price of the British flagship is not yet known, but there are rumors that the DBR22 will cost around two million euros. The print run is already known: ten units of the DBR22 will be made.
