Production of Munro starts in 2023

The next big thing? Perhaps it is this Munro. The five-door version with five seats and 130-inch wheelbase will go into production during 2023. The price tag starts at £49,995, excluding tax credits. According to the company, orders are pouring in from the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Dubai. Munro Vehicles will produce 50 vehicles by 2023.

Scaling up production

In 2024, Munro will expand from its current headquarters in East Kilbride to a new purpose-built plant in central Scotland, where production will initially reach more than 250 units per year. This will lead to the creation of 300 new jobs, according to the brand. The new production site will eventually be able to produce 2,500 vehicles per year. Then, by the way, we are already talking about 2027.

Towing weight of 3,500 kilograms

The Munro MK_1 is capable of effortlessly transporting a crew of five to the most rugged and remote locations. The vehicle has a load capacity of 1,000 kilograms and a towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms. According to its makers, the SUV is the ultimate, durable, utilitarian, off-road workhorse.

Two motor variants, two batteries

The Munro is available with a choice of two electric motors (220 kW or 280 kW) with a choice of two battery packs, 61 kWh and 82 kWh. The largest version reaches 300 kilometers on a full charge of electricity. The vehicle’s battery pack consists of 35 lithium NMC battery modules mounted in three heavy-duty aluminum boxes under the vehicle. This arrangement makes it fast, convenient and inexpensive to replace individual battery modules as needed. A fully integrated heat management system based on a heat pump increases efficiency, and the Munro’s battery pack is guaranteed to deliver 80 percent of its original energy capacity for at least eight years and 160,000 kilometers.

About Munro

The company was founded in 2019 by Russell Peterson and Ross Anderson. Peterson assumed the role of CEO and Anderson was named Head of Powertrain. Munro, named after a Scottish mountain that exceeds 3,000 feet in elevation, came to Peterson and Anderson’s attention during an off-road camping trip in the Highlands.
