Volkswagen ID.4 cheaper than ID.3: how can that be?

January 9, 2023

Smart response to Dutch market

Part of that has to do with being smart about the market. In view of the SEPP subsidy of 2,950 euros and, of course, the additional taxable benefit rules, the Dutch Volkswagen importer has added an extra-expensive ID.4 to its lineup: the Volkswagen ID4 Pure. That variant costs 43,690 euros, but with SEPP 2023 subsidy, that price drops to 40,740 euros for individuals.

Volkswagen ID.4 private lease

The SEPP subsidy can also be used with private leases. This makes the ID.4 Pure now temporarily drivable for an all-in monthly fee starting at 639 euros based on a 48-month term, 10,000 km per year and 500 euros deductible (Utrecht region). Business driving is also possible. Then you pay a net additional tax from 233 euros per month. In 2023, fully electric cars are subject to 16 percent additional tax on the first 35,000 euros of the car’s list price. An additional 22 percent must be paid on the excess.

Equipment Volkswagen ID.4 Pure

For those euros, you get LED lights, 18-inch “Falun” alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel and a multimedia system with 25.4-inch touchscreen including wireless App-Connect. Things like Lane Assist, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors are also included. Volkswagen delivers the new ID.4 Pure with a 52 kWh battery pack, good for a WLTP range of 361 kilometers. Charging can be done at home via a wallbox or power outlet, as well as via three-phase fast charging with 135 kW. Up to seven years of maintenance is included.

Price difference ID.4 and ID.3

But then how is it that the ID.4 Pure is cheaper than a smaller ID.3? Due to the global chip shortage, the delivery time of the ID.3 is currently longer than normal. As a result, supply is also limited. The Dutch importer can currently only offer the 204-hp electric motor in the ID.3, while the ID.4 Pure features a 148-horsepower electric motor.

Net prices

This is also reflected in the net prices. The price of the ID.3 already comes out higher on net. You pay 37,116 euros net for an ID.3 58 kWh (Pro), that is, without VAT and BPM. It is an EV, so there is no question of BPM. Including VAT and the cost of delivery, you arrive at 45,990 euros. The Volkswagen ID.4 52 kWh Pure with 148 hp costs net 35,157 euros and 43,690 euros including all additional costs.
