Volkswagen Gen.Travel Concept doesn’t need you
Volkswagen Gen.Travel Concept
Volkswagen presented the Gen.Travel Concept at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance automotive event near Paris. It is, according to the Germans, an innovative design study that will “redefine long-distance mobility of the future. Now that does sound very spectacular. In fact, it is simply an autonomous driving vehicle.
Autonomous driving level 5
Within autonomous driving there are different gradations, namely level 0 to level 5. The Volkswagen Gen.Travel Concept meets the Level 5 standard. The driver then no longer has any role in the vehicle. The car can drive completely independently. As a person, you are nothing more than a passenger in this Volkswagen. The car takes you to your destination and you don’t have to do anything.
Interior
The interior is fully modular and arranged as a living room so you can work or relax on the go. In total, the electric vehicle accommodates four people. “The Gen.Travel offers us a glimpse of travel in the future. It shows us what autonomous driving will look like in the future,” said Klaus Zyciora, Head of Volkswagen Group Design.
Car sickness
Dynamic lighting creates a pleasant working environment and avoids the danger of motion sickness. An overnight configuration allows two seats to be converted into two beds that fold out completely flat. Thanks to wing doors, getting in and out is easy.
Smart system: eABC
The car features eABC, an abbreviation for electric Active Body Control. This system rapidly calculates vertical and lateral movements that occur during acceleration, braking or cornering. The system can thus optimize handling. The Volkswagen Gen.Travel Concept further features artificial intelligence (AI) and platooning – fully autonomous driving in convoys – to increase range during long distances.
