VIDEO: Volkswagen Golf R (2024) makes first meters
Renewed Golf 8
Last week, Volkswagen introduced the world to the updated Golf 8. All variants came out from under the canvas, from the fuel-efficient Golf eHybrid to the sporty GTI and everything in between. Only the absolute top model was missing: the Golf R. According to Reinhold Ivenz, the man at the helm at Volkswagen R, the official unveiling is not scheduled until summer. But you don’t have to wait months for the first driving images, because we have already created them for you.
Birthday party
Indeed, AutoRAI.co.uk was at the birthday party of the Golf, which this year blows out 50 candles. Volkswagen celebrated in Austria, during the Ice Race in Zell am See. The updated Golf R made its first official gauges for the public there. The sportsman is still cloaked in a camouflage suit, but that should not spoil the fun. Clearly recognizable are the sporty R elements, such as four fist-thick exhaust pipes, blue brake calipers, a hefty spoiler and black wheels.
More power
Specifications the brand is not yet releasing. In the outgoing model, the 2.0-liter TSI is good for 320 horsepower. In fact, the limited Golf R 333 squeezes 333 hp and 420 Nm from the four-cylinder. How much more power Volkswagen manages to squeeze out of this engine, we probably won’t know until around summer. The video below shows the spectacular public debut of the updated Golf R:
