Toyota GR Yaris Ogier Edition and Rovanperä Edition: you have to see these!
Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä
The limited editions were developed with personal input from Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) champions Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä. The new models were developed based on concept versions previously shown at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. Drivers Sébastien Ogier – who won two of his eight WRC drivers’ titles with TGR-WRT, in 2020 and 2021, and Kalle Rovanperä, the winner in 2022 and 2023, contributed to the development.
Wish of Akio Toyoda
Both special models based on the new Toyota GR Yaris started as a wish of Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda – aka “Morizo” – to express his respect and gratitude to the drivers “who continue to improve our cars in rallies” and to the teams, rally organizers and fans of the sport.
New driving modes
In each car, the “Gravel” and “Track” modes of the standard GR Yaris have been replaced with new settings that reflect the rally drivers’ personal preferences for handling and performance. In addition, each of the special versions has a distinctive new exterior and interior.
Both cars are powered by the latest development of the GR Yaris’ 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which delivers 280 DIN horsepower and 390 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (6iMT).
Toyota GR Yaris Ogier Edition
The Ogier Edition GR Yaris has two new AWD modes: Morizo and Seb. Morizo mode was developed by Morizo (Akio Toyoda) based on his experiences in rally driving. It is calibrated to deliver consistent race times in acceleration, partial acceleration and braking. Seb mode, developed by Ogier, uses the Torsen front and rear limited slip differentials and all-wheel drive to distribute torque to the rear axle, allowing the rear of the car to break out with relative ease.
The body of the Ogier Edition has a special matte Stealth Grey paint job and features the French flag (Ogier’s home country) on the radiator grille and 18x8J BBS alloy wheels. The front fenders feature WRC decals.
Unique rear spoiler and blue calipers
Notable details also include a newly designed CFRP rear spoiler and blue painted brake calipers. Toyota GAZOO Racing decals are applied to the left and right doors and an Ogier Edition logo on the tailgate.
Inside, there is a commemorative WRC victory plaque on the passenger side of the instrument panel and contrasting blue, gray and red stitching (in honor of the French national colors) on the steering wheel. Gray stitching was used for the shift and handbrake handles and seat covers.
With both special editions, the new GR Yaris’ digital instrumentation has been updated to include the new driving modes, Morizo and Seb, along with the normal mode for the AWD system.
Toyota GR Yaris Rovanperä Edition
The Rovanperä Edition has a unique Donut mode, developed especially for the WRC’s youngest champion, who is very adept at drifting and making donuts. The new mode sends torque mainly to the rear wheels.
This GR Yaris version also offers the Kalle Mode. It uses a unique rear differential and Torsen limited-slip differentials front and rear for linear handling. The rear of the car can break out forcefully when entering a corner, then the front end can be positioned very precisely with the throttle.
Adjustable rear spoiler and unique differential
The car has an exclusive tricolor paint finish designed by the designer of Rovanperä’s racing helmet. WRC decals on the front wings and Toyota GAZOO Racing decals on the doors and rear bumper and a Rovanperä Edition badge on the tailgate complete the look. In addition to the BBS 18x8J rims, the car is equipped with a CFRP rear spoiler with adjustable wing, shared with the GRMN Yaris, and a constant-lock rear differential.
Inside, the upholstery and upholstery stitching again match the driver’s national colors, in this case blue and gray for Finland. As with the Ogier Edition, a special plaque commemorates Toyota GAZOO Racing’s WRC victory.
Limited numbers
The Ogier and Rovanperä Editions will be built in strictly limited numbers. Prices and exact details for the Netherlands will be announced at a later date.
