This monstrous IONIQ 5 N is going to storm Pikes Peak

June 3, 2024

IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec

The 504 kW (687 hp) strong IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec is designed to demonstrate the qualities of the production version of the IONIQ 5 N without fundamentally altering the car, according to the brand. Interestingly, Hyundai N adopted the standard powertrain. Hyundai N uses N Active Sound+ with custom speakers (over 120 dB) to both improve driver feedback and replace the sirens that electric Pikes Peak cars must have.

To adapt the cars to the demands of Pikes Peak, Hyundai N designed new shock absorbers, motorsport-specific brakes, 18-inch Yokohama Advan 005 slicks and a unique aerodynamic package with high downforce especially for the PPIHC. Additional safety features include a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, a Sabelt six-point Hans safety harness, a roll cage according to PPIHC regulations and a fire suppression system specific to EVs.

For the PPIHC, the two IONIQ 5 N and two IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec models race over a grueling, sharply uphill and winding 20-kilometer course that finishes 1,438 meters higher at the summit of Pikes Peak. They face 156 turns, rapidly changing weather conditions and high altitudes that affect both drivers and cars.

The IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec cars – decked out in a special ‘N’ design livery – will be driven by Robin Shute, four-time overall winner of Pikes Peak and the current holder of the ‘King of the Mountain’ title, and Dani Sordo, Hyundai Motorsport’s Spanish World Rally Championship driver. The IONIQ 5 N production models – painted in special N Performance colors – are driven by Paul Dallenbach, eleven-time PPIHC winner and three-time “King of the Mountain,” and Ron Zaras, a PPIHC rookie and media personality in the United States. Two of these special versions of the IONIQ 5 N, along with two IONIQ 5 N production versions, make up the team of four cars with which Hyundai N will participate in the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
