This is the only Holden Maloo R8 in the Netherlands!
The story of this Holden Maloo R8
“It all started in 2000 when I first traveled to Australia for an internship. Little did I know that this trip would be the beginning of a lifelong love affair with the Holden car brand!” said the owner.
Commodore
“During my time in Australia, I had the privilege of driving a Holden Commodore – a car I had never heard of until then. The professor at the university, owner of the Commodore, took me and a group of students on memorable day trips, revealing the scenic wonders of the areas south of Sydney. With each subsequent visit, it became clear that Australia has a vibrant car culture and a rich automotive history. The locals foster a deep sense of pride for homegrown brands.”
Importing Holden
“Years later, an extraordinary opportunity presented itself: I tried to buy a Holden and import it to the Netherlands. Despite initial reluctance from import companies, I persevered and found a willing partner. The registration process proved challenging, but through my determination I discovered a gleaming white Maloo. With the previous owner’s support, the car embarked on a transcontinental journey. After overcoming customs and modifications, it received final approvals in mid-July 2021.”
Driving in the Netherlands
And what’s that like, driving a Holden Maloo R8 in the Netherlands? “Driving in the Netherlands attracts attention, sometimes creates distractions, but also fellow enthusiasts show great admiration.”
The Maloo was not registered as HSV but as Holden because it was built on the Holden platform. “There are currently only 16 Holdens registered in the Netherlands. But there is only one Maloo – my Maloo.”
