This is how Honda sees the future, including Prelude Concept!
What used to be the Tokyo Motor Show has now been “reborn” as the Japan Mobility Show. The event offers a glimpse into the future of not only cars and motorcycles, but a broader range of mobility products, services and technologies. Honda is packing big.
Toshihiro Mibe, Honda Motor Director, President and Representative, explained: “This year Honda celebrates its 75th anniversary. When we look back on our history as a manufacturer of mobility products, in which we provide great value to our customers and society, we can say that Honda has grown to this point while always being driven by ‘dreams’ and taking on challenges to realize what was thought impossible. Mobility allows us to see new environments, meet new people and discover new things, which enhances the world we live in.”
Restrictions
“On the other hand, mobility faces several constraints. It can take a long time to get to our destination, and during that time we often can’t do anything else. Or we can’t even get to certain places because we don’t have the right means of transportation. Honda wants to enable people to transcend such limitations, and we want to continue to offer the pleasure and freedom of mobility in the future,” stated Mibe-san.
By using new mobility products and services according to user needs, Honda can go faster and further. The top executive explains. “We can go to places we can’t go with human capabilities alone. New mobility products and services will enable people to do things that were not possible before.
Honda Cruise Origin
The Cruise Origin autonomous vehicle will enable people to transcend the limitation of time. Since the interior space of this vehicle can be completely private, users can use their travel time more freely, such as holding a meeting or having a fun time with the family without worrying about other people around them. Indeed, this vehicle allows us to transcend the limitations of time. Time is an absolute constraint for most people. “Mobility products and services that enable people to more efficiently use the limited time everyone has equally – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – for more meaningful things will provide tremendous value for people. Together with GM and Cruise, Honda plans to launch a driverless ride service using Cruise Origin in Japan in early 2026,” said Mibe-san.
Honda Sustaina-C Concept
The Honda Sustaina-C Concept should enable people to transcend the limitations of limited resources. The top executive explains, “Mobility products are made of various materials, including metals, resins and fabrics. However, these materials and resources are limited. If we only use current ways of making and recycling products, sooner or later there will come a time when it will be difficult to sustain our production of mobility products. The Sustaina-C Concept is a car made of acrylic resin that is recycled and reused. This kind of resource circulation will allow us to transcend the limitations of limited resource availability and achieve both environmental sustainability and the pleasure and freedom of mobility well into the future.”
Honda CI-MEV is self-driving micromobility vehicle
“As people age, driving and walking can become difficult. And there are people who live in areas where public transportation is not available. Such people often have limited range. If there are products that provide easily accessible, last-mile mobility, people can move farther, faster and more relaxed. And if everyone can enjoy mobility more freely and increase their living radius, they will be more likely to meet new people, which we believe will increase people’s opportunities,” explained the top executive. For that reason, Honda developed the CI-MEV. Feel free to call it Honda’s Canta.
Honda Prelude Concept
The Honda Prelude Concept looks particularly production-ready and, according to Honda, brings the “joy of driving” to a full-fledged electric future. Mibe-san explains: We know that our customers expect one more thing from Honda – sports models. At the automotive electrification briefing we held last year, I talked about future sports models. To wrap up my presentation, I want to show you one today – the specialty sports model. That became the Prelude Concept. Honda has always been committed to creating sporty vehicles. And the word “prelude” means an “introductory or preliminary performance. This model will be the prelude to our future models that will inherit the “joy of driving” in the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unchanging sporting mentality. The Prelude Concept is a special sports model that will provide an exhilarating experience that will make you want to drive forever and experience an extraordinary excitement you have never felt before. We are working diligently on development, so keep your expectations high for this model!”
