Successor Opel Grandland to become BEV
Opel Grandland
The Opel Grandland BEV will stand on the all-new STLA Medium platform. To produce this platform, modifications are needed in Eisenach. Opel still has some time to make all the adjustments, as production of the new BEV is scheduled for the second half of 2024. From 2028, Opel will produce only battery-electric vehicles in Europe.
STLA Medium
The Opel Grandland currently being produced in Eisenach is also available with plug-in hybrid variants. Arnaud Deboeuf, Chief Manufacturing Officer of Stellantis, said, “With this allocation of STLA Medium, Stellantis’ new full BEV platform, the staff at the Eisenach plant will continue to improve the cost and quality of the vehicles they produce to satisfy our customers.”
Billions of euros
Parent company Stellantis is investing more than 30 billion euros through 2025 in electrification and software to deliver BEVs that meet customer requirements. The current models from Eisenach are the Opel Grandland and Grandland GSe. The Eisenach plant, opened in September 1992 with production of the Opel Astra, is located in the state of Thuringia, central Germany. In 2022, the plant celebrated its 30th anniversary with an Open Day event commemorating the production of 3.7 million vehicles.
