Spotted: a Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition

April 26, 2024

Admittedly, a car in a showroom is not really a car spot. Nevertheless, for this time we are making an exception. After all, it’s not every day we come face to face with a genuine Ford GT, let alone one produced in an extra-limited edition. We saw this exclusive Ford in the showroom of Dekker Autogroep in Zaandam, where we were to pick up and return a Ford Ranger Wildtrak(road test).

The reborn Ford GT

Enough has been written about the Ford GT, including by us. In that regard, we can keep the story about the car short. In a nutshell, the legendary model returned to the Ford lineup in completely new form in 2017. The latest GT has “only” a 3.5-liter V6 in the rear, as this compact engine allowed for optimal aerodynamics and distinctive air arcs in the body. It may be “only” a V6, but Ford engineers have managed to squeeze a nice 482 to 492 kW (656 to 670 hp) out of the block. The performance is therefore impressive, as our colleague Bart was able to experience for himself in 2021.

The spotted specimen

The one we came across is, to be exact, a 2021 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition. To some extent, it is an old friend of ours, as we wrote about the car when it was delivered here new. Now we can admire the car in real life. The ’66 Heritage Edition is one of several Heritage Editions of the GT, each honoring a victory in the rich motorsports history of the original GT40. This ’66 Heritage Edition refers to the GT40 MkII that won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966. Both starting number and color scheme of the new GT refer to the one of yesteryear. Here in the showroom, the car is further honored with a beautiful picture on the wall, next to the new GT.
