Self-driving Connexxion bus for sale on Marketplace
ParkShuttle
It was a revolutionary device: the ParkShuttle. It was announced in 1995, and after a long development and testing phase, the first generation entered service in 1999. To this day, the “bus line” operates in Rotterdam. The third-generation ParkShuttle operates every weekday between 06:00 and 21:00 and shuttles between Kralingse Zoom metro station in Rotterdam and Rivium business park in Capelle aan den IJssel.
Concluded trajectory
The route is accessible only to these self-propelled “streetcars” and closed to other traffic. However, there are intersections where the “streetcars” must cross at grade with cars, bicyclists and pedestrians. These intersections have warning signs and sometimes barriers. The vehicle drives fully automatically and follows a virtual route where its position is determined using small magnets in the road surface. At Kralingse Zoom subway station, electric vehicles will be charging outside peak hours.
ParkShuttle II
On December 1, 2006, the second-generation ParkShuttle was inaugurated by Prime Minister Balkenende and retired in 2019. A ParkShuttle II is now for sale on Marktplaats for a reasonable 1,500 euros. The motor is missing, but the shuttle still rolls. According to the seller in Katwijk, it is the ideal base for a gazebo, playground or smoking booth. The video below shows the ParktShuttle II in its glory days. Bidding on Marketplace can be done here.
