SEAT scores with SUVs, but future is uncertain
Three SUVs from SEAT
Last year, the SEAT Arona, Ateca and Tarraco already accounted for 49% of SEAT’s worldwide sales with 192,100 units. The Arona is the absolute bestseller in SEAT’s SUV lineup. So it should come as no surprise to you that the 1 millionth SEAT SUV to come off the assembly line recently was a SEAT Arona.
SEAT Arona
Since its launch in 2017, the SEAT Arona has become the brand’s most popular car, with 481,585 units sold worldwide. Particularly in home country Spain, the Arona is a bestseller. In fact, 2021 marked the first time an SUV was the best-selling car in the country.
SEAT Ateca
Of the SEAT Ateca, introduced in 2017, SEAT has already sold 435,443 units to date. The Ateca scores particularly well in neighboring Germany, where more than 108,000 units have already been sold.
SEAT Tarraco
The SEAT Tarraco has been the third pillar in SEAT’s SUV offensive since 2018. The brand has so far sold 88,820 units of this model worldwide. As with the Ateca, Germany is the largest market; 29,000 Easterners chose the model.
Future of SEAT uncertain
Nice, that SUV success for SEAT. But real concrete future plans have still not been communicated by this car brand. Indeed, SEAT is the only brand in the Volkswagen Group that does not yet have an electric car in its lineup. What about Cupra? Today, that is an independent car brand with its own models. So Cupra is separate from SEAT. Already there are sounds that SEAT will be sacrificed and the focus will be entirely on Cupra. The future will bring clarity.
