Renewed BMW 3 Series: PHEV powertrain with 101 electric miles
BMW 3 Series 2024
In July, the updated BMW 3 Series Sedan and new BMW 3 Series Touring will hit the market. BMW has made a number of updates to its models, bringing them back up to date. The biggest news is under the hood. BMW has increased the battery capacity of its PHEV models, from 12 kWh to 19.5 kWh. The new BMW Gen5 high-voltage battery offers nearly double the energy density compared to the previous generation, while not taking up more space. This gives the BMW 330e Sedan an electric range of 92 to 101 kilometers, 88 to 96 kilometers for the BMW 330e xDrive Sedan, 93 to 98 kilometers for the BMW 330e Touring and 88 to 91 kilometers for the BMW 330e xDrive Touring. A 3-phase 11 kW AC on-board charger is standard. This allows the high-voltage battery to be fully charged in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
PHEV popular
Plug-in Hybrid models have become particularly popular recently, but at the top of the 3 Series sales charts is the BMW 320i Sedan. About three-quarters of the Sedan variants available worldwide come with a gasoline engine. In contrast, about 40 percent of BMW 3 Series Touring models come with a diesel engine, while the rest are evenly split between gasoline and Plug-in Hybrid variants.
The updated BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring are available in the Netherlands with a choice of four gasoline and four diesel engines, including six-cylinder in-line engines for the M Performance models, with outputs ranging from 110 kW (150 hp) to 275 kW (374 hp).
Fewer buttons
From the outside, it is hard to tell if you are dealing with the updated model. True BMW fans will recognize it by the two new exterior colors Arctic Race Blue metallic and Fire Red metallic and the new alloy wheels. In the interior, there are newly designed steering wheels and instrument panel. Thanks to BMW Operating System 8.5, fewer physical buttons are needed in the interior.
Prices
As mentioned, the redesigned BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring will hit the market in July 2024. Both models are produced at the BMW Group Factory Munich. The BMW 3 Series Sedan will also be built at the BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico and at the Tiexi Plant in Shenyang for the Chinese market, operated by the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive. The BMW 330e sedan starts on the price list at 56,720 euros. For the 3 Series Touring with the upgraded PHEV powertrain, the brand is asking a minimum of 57,958 euros.
