Red Bull on Brazil GP: “Insulting online behavior toward Max and Checo unacceptable”
Mistakes made
Oracle Red Bull Racing says in the statement the following: “As a team we made some mistakes in Brazil. We had not anticipated the situation that occurred on the last lap and we had not agreed a strategy for such a scenario prior to the race. Unfortunately, Max was only informed of the request to give up position at the last corner without passing on all the necessary information.”
Max open and honest team player
The statement continues, “This put Max, who has always been an open and honest team player, in a compromising situation with little time to respond, which was not our intention. After the race, Max spoke openly and honestly, allowing both drivers to resolve outstanding issues or concerns. The team accepts Max’s reasoning. The conversation was a personal matter that remains private between the team and no further comment will be made.”
“Death threats, hate mail, venom toward related family members is sad”
Completely unacceptable
“What happened next on social media is completely unaccptable. The offensive online behavior towards Max, Checo, the team and their respective families is shocking and saddening and unfortunately it is something we as a sport have to address with depressing regularity. There is no place for this in racing or in society as a whole and we need to do better and be better. This is a sport, we are here to race. Death threats, hate mail, venom towards related family members is sad. We value inclusion and want a safe space for everyone to work in and enjoy our sport. The misconduct must stop.”
