Professional tire smoker Travis Pastrana goes wild in Florida in Gymkhana 2022 – VIDEO
Gymkhana
The Gymkhana movies are a household name. The earlier volumes invariably saw stunt pilot and creator Ken Block behind the controls of fire-breathing, smoking and almost alien-looking four-wheelers. But Block is also getting a day older, and in Travis Pastrana, a perfect protégé has been found. In Gymkhana 2022, Pastrana makes the city of Florida unsafe in a souped-up, beefed-up ’83 Subaru GL Wagon. Don’t try this at home….
Bigger, stronger, faster
Gymkhana is like the Fast&Furious movies: each new part must be bigger, stronger, faster than its predecessor. And it succeeds quite nicely – though by now a clear thread can be discerned in the type of stunts the Gymkhana movies serve up. From bizarre jumps to doughnuts going up in smoke and from crazy drag races to stoppies with real air brakes … even Epke Sonderland and Sanne Wevers will probably get red ears watching Gymkhana 2022. Pastrana seems to conjure it all out of his hat with playful ease. Homage!
Subaru GL Wagon of yesteryear
The brutal monster in which Pastrana unsafe the streets of Florida is a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon. The +870-hp Japanese of yesteryear has the pet name “Family Huckster,” a fat nod to the Family Truckster that caused a furor in the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation, also from ’83. Few parts of Pastrana’s Subaru are admittedly still original. Thus, in addition to a maximally boosted 4-cylinder boxer engine with knots of turbos, Pastrana’s GL Wagon is equipped with a sequential gearbox, a quartet of WRC mufflers and a tubular frame. Actually, even the vintage-looking bodywork is “fake,” as it is largely constructed of the state-of-the-art and featherweight commodity of carbon fiber. Not a luxury considering Gymkhana 2022 has quite a bit of air time.
Spectacular video
Compared to this video by Travis Pastrana, Ken Block’ s Electrikhana video is just well behaved. Also fun of course and of a completely different caliber, but Pastrana presents what we think is the roughest Gymkhana video ever! That’s all we’re going to give away. Above all, you must see it for yourself!
