Porsche throws interior Cayenne complete overhaul
Porsche Driver Experience
The updated Porsche Cayenne is the first Porsche with the so-called new Porsche Driver Experience. This set-up is distinguished by an all-digital display. The focus is emphatically on the driver, with the main controls grouped around the steering wheel.
Elements of Taycan
The cockpit of the redesigned Cayenne transfers elements of the electric Taycan to a combustion engine Porsche for the first time. The Porsche Driver Experience includes a fully digital, free-standing 12.6-inch screen curved around the driver. Who can adjust the display options of this so-called “Curved and Free Standing Design” to their own preference.
Night vision assistant
Depending on the selected display and trim level, the tachometer, online navigation, night vision assistant or 3D driving aid are in the foreground. There is also the choice of a greatly reduced display or a classic display with five bells.
New center console and sport steering wheels
Also new are the center console and a new generation of sport steering wheels. The automatic transmission control lever is now located to the right of the steering wheel. This creates space on the center console for a large control unit for climate control. An optional private screen is available for the passenger. Optimized Connect features round out the new interior concept.
Balance between digital and analog elements
Porsche opts for a clever balance between digital and analog elements. All the controls that are important while driving are grouped directly around the steering wheel. The start button is located to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard; a recognizable Porsche feature. In the updated Cayenne, Porsche has also placed the thoroughly modified dial for the driver assistance systems directly on the steering wheel.
Sport steering wheel comes from the 911
The new sports steering wheel comes from the 911. It has been completely revised from the previous Cayenne. The driving mode switch on the steering wheel offers a choice of Normal, Offroad, Sport and Sport Plus modes, and is now part of the standard equipment. The new switch for selecting instrument cluster functions and design is also located directly on the steering wheel, as is the control for the optional head-up display.
Air conditioning control panel
The new climate control control panel on the center console has a glass surface in black-panel design. Climate settings are quickly controlled on the screen. In addition, Porsche uses a combination of touch-buttons with haptic feedback, mechanical A/C buttons and a physical volume control.
HD display
The centrally located, 12.3-inch high-resolution screen is the command center of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). As usual, the driver will find numerous driving and comfort features here plus the standard online navigation and multimedia functions. The integrated 10.9-inch passenger display available as an option is a novelty in the Porsche Cayenne. As in the Taycan, the front passenger can use the additional touchscreen to make the driver’s life easier, such as by controlling the navigation system or selecting a media service. A film ensures that the display is not visible from the driver’s seat. This allows video content to be streamed on the passenger display, even while driving.
Vents
The dashboard, center console and upper part of the interior of the doors are completely redesigned in the redesigned Porsche Cayenne. By emphasizing the horizontal part of the dashboard, the interior appears even wider. The air vents are vertically aligned; typical Cayenne. For the first time, Porsche has designed all cockpit vents without slats.
Cooled induction charger for smartphone
Porsche has further improved connectivity in the Cayenne. Porsche’s revamped SUV comes standard with a cooled tray in which the smartphone can be charged wirelessly via induction. Cooling enables optimized charging power of up to 15 watts.
USB-C ports
Extensive integration of online services opens up new possibilities, such as using the Siri Assistant to control vehicle functions. Also new are two USB-C ports in the front storage compartment and two additional USB-C ports in the rear part of the center console. All USB ports have a fast-charging function. The front ports also connect the smartphone to the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). To pair the smartphone with the car, just scan a QR code displayed in the PCM with the smartphone. Then the user can use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as apps such as Spotify and Apple Music. With the new In-Car Video feature, videos via streaming provider Screenhits TV can be viewed directly in the PCM – both on the center display when the Cayenne is stationary and on the front passenger display while driving.
