Porsche Taycan Turbo GT: bizarrely fast, not cheap!
Porsche Taycan Turbo GT
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package are the new sporty flagship models that take the Taycan’s performance to an even higher level. Both cars are equipped with a more powerful pulse inverter and deliver 580 kW (789 HP). When Launch Control is used, the car’s power is temporarily increased to 760 kW (1,034 HP) with overboost, and for a period of two seconds the power can even reach 815 kW (1,108 HP).
Performance
The Taycan Turbo GT needs only 2.3 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h sprint and 2.2 seconds when combined with the Weissach package. That is respectively one or two tenths of a second faster than the Taycan Turbo S. The difference in acceleration from standstill to 200 km/h is even greater: 6.6 seconds for the Taycan Turbo GT and 6.4 seconds with the Weissach package, which is up to 1.3 seconds faster than the Taycan Turbo S.
Up to 1,340 Newton meters
The pulse inverter is the key component for driving the electric motor. In both Taycan Turbo GT models, pulse inverters with a maximum capacity of 900 amps are used on the rear axle. These deliver more power and torque than the 600-amp pulse inverter in the Taycan Turbo S. Maximum torque in both versions: up to 1,340 Newton meters. The range is up to 555 kilometers (WLTP).
Application of lightweight materials
Thanks to the use of lightweight materials, Porsche has reduced the weight of the Taycan Turbo GT by up to 75 kg compared to the Taycan Turbo S. Several carbon components contribute to this. CFRP bucket seats, a luggage compartment composed of lighter materials and the omission of the tailgate’s electric soft-close system also save weight. The Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with the Dynamic package.
21-inch Turbo GT rims
This includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension system with tuning tailored to the GT. In dynamic driving situations, this suspension provides an almost perfect connection to the road thanks to a balanced distribution of the wheel load. The exclusive 21-inch Turbo GT rims have embossed spokes, which saves weight while effectively ventilating the brakes. As standard, the Taycan Turbo GT comes with optimized PCCB brakes that are two kilograms lighter. The calipers are exclusively painted in Victory Gold color.
Design Porsche Taycan Turbo GT
Especially for the Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche has developed a front spoiler with aeroblades. The rear view is dominated by an adaptive spoiler. The “tear-off edge” of this spoiler has a Gurney flap, which is finished with a high-gloss carbon texture. Matrix LED headlights are standard. At no extra cost, HD matrix LED headlights can also be supplied on the Taycan Turbo GT. The frames of the side windows are finished in high-gloss black.
In addition to differentiating the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S from the other models in the series thanks to Turbonite elements, the Taycan Turbo GT also exudes more racing atmosphere. Both models bear the colored Porsche emblem on the front cover and on the hub caps of the alloy wheels. A total of six exterior colors are available, including the new paint colors Pale Blue Metallic and Purple Sky Metallic. These paint colors are available exclusively on the Taycan Turbo GT for one year. Paint to Sample paints are of course also possible.
Microfiber textiles Race-Tex
The sporty Race-Tex microfiber textile comes standard with black leather accents. Standard equipment includes lightweight bucket seats with a high-gloss carbon finish. At no extra cost, the new Taycan can also be equipped with Adaptive Sport Seats Plus with electric 18-way adjustment and memory package. Stitched on the front headrests is the Turbo GT logo. In addition, an emblem with the model logo is located under the climate control control panel. An exclusive interior trim with contrasting shades in Volt Blue or GT Silver is available upon request.
Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package
The Weissach package takes the Taycan Turbo GT to an even higher level of precision and sharpness, placing additional emphasis on aerodynamics and lightweight construction. The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds, making this two-seater a tenth of a second faster than the equally powerful Taycan Turbo GT. Top speed is 305 instead of 290 km/h. Porsche has further improved the aerodynamics of the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, thanks in part to specific elements in the bottom of the car and an updated front spoiler. This version has a fixed rear spoiler with a carbon finish that provides up to 220 kg of downforce.
By omitting things you don’t need on the track, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package weighs about 70 kg less than the version without the package. The usual rear seat was replaced with custom-made lightweight carbon fiber upholstery and a storage compartment was added behind the seats for the driver and front passenger. The Sport Chrono package’s analog clock, normally present on the instrument panel, is also omitted, as are the mats. In addition, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package has less insulation material and only one cargo door on the right side, manually operated instead of electric. Special sound and heat-reflective glass and a Sound Package Plus without rear speakers also save weight. The GT interior package with black Race-Tex is standard equipment.
Records on the Nordschleife and Laguna Seca
The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package is not even on the market yet, but already it is a record holder by capturing the title of fastest electric series production car at Laguna Seca. With a time of 1:27.87 minutes, Porsche test driver Lars Kern drove a faster lap than any other driver has ever done with a street-legal electric car. Not long before, a pre-production version of this same new model set a new class record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Then, too, Kern was behind the wheel and recorded a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife, a whopping 26 seconds faster than the time he clocked in a 2022 Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan.
“The Turbo GT with Weissach package sets new standards in almost every area,” said test driver Kern. “This includes acceleration and braking, an intuitive-to-use Attack Mode, and a powertrain designed for maximum traction and performance. And cornering grip is equally impressive; controllability and agility are incredible.” When Attack Mode is activated, up to 120 kW of additional power is available for ten seconds. Attack Mode is based on the push-to-pass function of the other Taycan models. Optimized for track driving, the system works in a similar way to the 99X race cars Porsche uses in the Formula E championship. Compared to the push-to-pass function in the other Taycan models, Attack Mode offers 50 kW more boost power.
