Police catch Tesla owner illegally charging Model 3 via lamppost
Energy Crisis
The energy crisis is no joke. The Dutch are massively turning down the thermostat a few degrees and some are even jumping under a cold shower. Officers of the Hoekschewaard police arrested a man yesterday who was trying to keep his energy bill low in a very creative way.
Extension cord
The man was illegally charging his Tesla. Next to his car was a cable reel and an extension cord ran to a lamppost. “They immediately saw that the lamppost had been tampered with,” police told RTV Rijnmond. “The valve had been taken off and more had happened to it. And so there was a cable running to the Tesla a few meters away.”
Power theft
The Model 3 owner was arrested and is suspected of power theft. ‘We are curious about the story behind this action. The owner may tell this at the police station,” police wrote in a comment on Instagram.
Expensive joke
The man’s action is not only dangerous – messing with the power grid is a bad idea – but it is also heavily illegal. Power fraud is punishable by up to four years in prison. A fine can reach up to 100,000 euros. Thus the man still ends the year with a peppery bill.
