DIY projects, they come in all shapes and sizes. Where we previously interviewed Mathijs with his BMW 325i track car, this is another completely different project. This time, editor and house photographer Yannick put a unique Porsche owner’s creation in front of the camera. The owner in question had his Cayenne transformed into a Cayenne Dakar.

Cayenne S

The 340-hp Porsche Cayenne S is already an impressive SUV by nature, but this particular SUV, as you can see, has been given a character all its own. With the expertise of Porsche Centrum Twente at the helm, the car was taken care of from head to toe. The originally gray-delivered SUV features a Rothmans livery wrap. The design is inspired by the Porsche Cayenne Dakar support vehicle. In addition, the SUV features a set of OZ wheels with muddy off-road tires. In addition, the air suspension has been modified for more ride height, the muffler has been removed for a bit more perception and Hella rally lights show off on the nose.

992 Dakar

In conversation with AutoRAI.nl, the owner enthusiastically shares his inspiration behind the creation of the Cayenne. “Before we had this Cayenne modified, we had a 2002 Land Rover Defender 90, but that car was not practical at all. Whereas the Porsche’s interior is wonderfully comfortable and five-seat, the Defender’s is completely different. After all, the Defender had only two seats. Also, the Defender had a five-cylinder diesel instead of the V8 found in the Cayenne. When the Porsche 911 Dakar was released, we came up with this idea. We’ve always had a thing for off-road cars, mainly Defenders. Early this year we had this one built, because it was time for something different.”
