Owner sees McLaren P1 lost to Hurricane Ian
Canary yellow McLaren P1
Instagrammer Ernie – better known by the profile name ‘lambo9286‘ – has nothing to complain about when it comes to his fleet of cars. His greatest pride is a canary yellow McLaren P1 that he regularly photographs and shares on Instagram.
Very sad
But alas: Hurricane Ian also got his McLaren. On Instagram, he shared a photo showing his P1 completely submerged. The P1 will not rust, as it is constructed entirely of carbon fiber and other lightweight components. But sad it is. Ernie seems to be sober about it. Those who can afford a P1 can surely afford the insurance premium as well.
McLaren P1 as ‘hurricane supply car’
Interestingly, on Wednesday, Oct. 28 – a day before the incident – the Ernie had posted another photo on Instagram that read “My hurricane supply car. He had gone to get some groceries with his P1. The day after that, things went wrong. Incidentally, no one was injured. That, of course, remains most important.
McLaren P1: circulation and powertrain
A total of 439 copies of the McLaren P1 were produced, based on 375 copies of the regular P1 – like Ernie’s – 58 copies of the P1 GTR, five copies of the P1 LM and only one McLaren P1 GT. All cars were built between October 2013 and December 2015. In the Netherlands, the normal variant had a new price of 1,111,617 euros, including taxes. The hybrid powertrain of this hypercar consists of a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 737 hp, complemented by a 179-hp electric motor. System power comes out to 916 hp with up to 900 Nm of torque.
