Nissan introduces e-4ORCE in Europe – What is it?

e-4ORCE

At Nissan, they are extremely proud of it: e-4ORCE. The brand has spent years working on the technology and you can find it in certain electric and electrified models. For now, those are the Ariya and X-Trail e-Power. The “e” in e-4ORCE stands for the electric motors Nissan uses in the system. ‘4ORCE’ refers to the physical power and energy of the car while the number 4 stands for all-wheel drive.

Two electric motors

The system uses two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. With the X-Trail, you additionally get a regular gasoline engine, which generates power for the electric motors. In the Ariya, power comes from a large battery pack. Because there is an electric motor on each axle, there is no need for a central drive shaft. As a result, the system is less complex and lighter than a traditional 4WD system. In addition, the lack of a differential allows for more interior space.

Precise

The e-4ORCE system regulates the power of the two electric motors and distributes it evenly and independently to the front and rear axles, maximizing tire grip. In addition, the system regulates the braking force for each wheel individually. Thanks to the precise control of electric motors and brakes, the car remains steady in all conditions, according to the brand, regardless of whether the road surface is very wet or even slippery. Ideal during winter sports, then, or if you have to plow through a muddy country road with a caravan.

Raging

The e-4ORCE system can adjust the distribution of power between the two electric motors in a ten-thousandth of a second. Significantly faster than is possible with mechanical all-wheel drive. The X-Trail with e-4ORCE also has the advantage of a higher towing weight. We recently took the new X-Trail with e-4ORCE on the road. You can read how that went here:
