NIO ET7 coming to the Netherlands this year
What is Nio?
Forgotten for a moment who or what Nio is again? It is a Chinese automaker, which has already achieved considerable success in its home country. Established in 2014, the brand is a major player in the premium segment in China. Nio’s models begin with the letters ES or ET, such as the ES6, ES7, ES8 and the ET5 and ET7. ES models are SUVs and models beginning with the letters ET are sedans.
Nio models
By now, 200,000 Nio’s have rolled off the assembly line, most of them driving around in the home country. But Nio is eager to cross borders and aims to operate in 25 countries by 2025. By the end of 2022, the brand will sell its cars in six countries, including the Netherlands. In Europe, the automaker will compete with the ET7 against the Audi RS e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQS and Tesla Model S, among others, before the end of the year. Later, the ET5 will also come to the Netherlands, a competitor to the BMW i4, the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3, among others.
Nio ET7
The European adventure begins for Nio with the ET7. The first boat of models is now on its way to Europe. According to the brand, these cars will hit the road this year, including in the Netherlands. Photos show that Nio has packed the models tightly so that owners can receive their cars scratch-free.
Specifications
As mentioned, the 5.1 meter ET7 is a direct rival to the Tesla Model S. The exact specifications of the model that will hit the road in Europe are not yet known. In China, the ET7 is available with three battery variants: 70, 100 and 150 kWh. The small battery pack is good for a range of 500 kilometers, the medium pack is empty only after 700 kilometers. With the largest battery pack, the brand says a range of as much as 1,000 kilometers is possible. These figures are calculated according to the optimistic NEDC cycle though.
653 hp
The ET7 has all-wheel drive in all cases, thanks to an electric motor on the front and rear axles. The engine up front is good for 245 hp and in the rear is a 408 hp engine. The combined system output comes to 653 hp and 850 Nm. In just 3.9 seconds, the Chinese sedan is at 100 mph. We will soon hear what ingredients the ‘European’ ET7 has in store. A price has not yet been given to the model in the Netherlands. In China, an ET7 costs about 57,000 euros converted.
