New Porsche Macan: from less than 90,000 euros!
In two flavors: Porsche Macan 4 and Macan Turbo
Ten years after its successful launch, the Porsche Macan enters its second model generation, this time all-electric and rated up to 470 kW (639 hp). The new Macan delivers the performance of a sports car, is fast charging with up to 270 kW of payload and has a driving range of up to 613 kilometers (WLTP). It comes in two flavors: as Macan 4 and Macan Turbo,
“Sportiest model in this segment”
“With this all-electric Macan, we want to offer the sportiest model in this segment,” said Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan. “Porsche exclusively uses the latest generation of permanently synchronous motors (PSM) on the front and rear axles for efficiency and optimum power reproducibility. The figures guarantee top-level E-Performance.”
The performance of the Porsche Macan
Combined with Launch Control, the Macan 4 delivers up to 300 kW (408 hp) of overboost power, while the Macan Turbo generates as much as 470 kW (639 hp). Maximum torque is 650 and 1,130 Nm, respectively. In the process, the Macan 4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds; the Macan Turbo takes just 3.3 seconds. The models achieve top speeds of 220 and 260 km/h, respectively.
Battery Technology
The electric motors in the new Macan draw their power from a lithium-ion battery sunk into the ground. The battery pack has a gross capacity of 100 kWh, of which up to 95 kWh can be actively used. The combined WLTP range is up to 613 kilometers in the Macan 4 and 591 kilometers (WLTP) in the Macan Turbo. The high-voltage battery is a central component of the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which relies on an 800-volt architecture.
Fast charging up to 270 kW!
At 800-volt fast charging stations, the new Macan can charge direct current (DC) with a capacity of up to 270 kW. In about 21 minutes, battery capacity can be increased from 10 to 80 percent. At 400-volt charging stations, a high-voltage exchanger in the battery enables so-called bank charging by effectively splitting the 800-volt battery into two batteries, each with a nominal voltage of 400 volts. This enables efficient charging at capacities up to 135 kW without the use of an additional high-voltage booster. AC charging can be done with up to 11 kW at home via a wallbox. While driving, up to 240 kW of energy can be recovered through the electric motors.
Rear axle steering and 2-valve dampers
The new Macan was developed with a strong focus on driving dynamics that is inseparable from a Porsche. Jörg Kerner, says: “Thanks to its sporty seating position, low center of gravity, driving dynamics and steering precision, the new Macan gives you a real sports car feeling. Both the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo have all-wheel drive. The two electric motors are controlled almost in real time via the on-board electronics. The electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) works about five times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system and can react to wheel slip within 10 milliseconds. In addition, the distribution of all-wheel drive is controlled by the driving program selected. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), an electronically controlled limited slip differential on the rear axle, also contributes to the Macan Turbo’s grip, driving stability and control of lateral movements.”
Air suspension
Models of the Macan with air suspension – standard on the Turbo – are equipped with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping system. This system can be optionally combined with the chassis with standard steel springs. PASM now also features dampers with 2-valve technology. Thanks to more extensive damper settings, this results in a broader spectrum between comfort and performance, and this technology makes the differences between driving programs even more palpable.
Optional rear axle steering
For the first time, the Macan has optional rear-axle steering, with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. This provides a small turning radius of only 11.1 meters. This is not only useful when maneuvering around town, but also provides exceptional driving stability at higher speeds.
Design Porsche Macan
Thanks to sharper proportions and Porsche Design DNA, the new Macan models look sporty and dominant. “The new electric Macan is clearly recognizable as Porsche,” said Michael Mauer, Porsche’s Vice President of Style. “The classic Porsche lines have been further developed and optimally adapted to the challenges of an electric car. The design makes it clear: even in electric form, the Macan remains the sports car in its segment.”
Dimensions Porsche Macan 2024
The sloping hood and substantial wheel arches give the compact SUV (4,784 mm long, 1,938 mm wide and 1,622 mm high) dynamic looks even when stationary. The new Macan is equipped with rims up to 22-inches with different tire sizes. The headlights are divided into two parts: the flat upper light unit with four-pitch daytime running lights emphasizes the width of the car. The main light module with optional matrix LED technology is positioned lower in the nose. The distinctive Porsche flyline is one with the flat rear window. Combined with the windowless doors and distinctive sideblades, this results in a sleek, sporty design. The Porsche logo is now located in the center of the 3D light strip.
Good streamline
Porsche has optimized the aerodynamics for greater range, thanks in part to the use of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) and a number of other targeted measures. With a Cw value of 0.25, the new Macan is one of the most streamlined SUVs on the market, with positive effects on driving range and energy consumption. The PAA package includes the adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling valves on the front air intakes and flexible covers on the completely sealed underbody. The entire front end is based on Porsche’s classic design language and also provides improved aerodynamics.
Macan also has a frunk!
The electrification of the Porsche Macan provides additional luggage space. Depending on the model and equipment, luggage space behind the rear seats measures up to 540 liters. There is also the “frunk,” a second luggage compartment under the front lid with a capacity of 84 liters. When the rear seatback is fully folded down, the capacity of the luggage compartment increases to as much as 1,348 liters. The Macan can tow up to 2,000 kg.
Seat position
Depending on the model and equipment, the driver and front passenger now sit up to 28 mm lower than before, while rear passengers sit up to 15 mm lower and have more legroom. The interior is unmistakably Porsche. In addition to modern digital user interfaces, there are also specific analog controls, such as on the air vents and air conditioning controls. For some parts in the interior of the new electric Macan, Porsche has used ecological materials.
Interior Porsche Macan 2024
The Macan features the latest display and control concept with up to three screens. For the first time, the passenger can also view vehicle information, adjust settings on the infotainment system or stream video content while the car is in motion via its own optionally available 10.9-inch screen. In addition, the Porsche Driver Experience now includes a head-up display with augmented reality technology. The infotainment system is based on the Android Automotive OS. The standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM) in the new Macan takes computing power to a new level. For example, the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant suggests routes, including charging stops, in an instant. In the new Porsche App Center, passengers can directly access popular apps from third-party providers and install them directly in the new Macan.
