New law in Paris yields 5 million euros in fines

December 22, 2022

More than 200,000 fines handed out in very short time

In major cities such as London, Paris and Berlin, traffic is often jammed. Therefore, to get through traffic quickly and easily, many people choose a motorcycle or scooter. In Paris, until September 1, you could also park your bike anywhere, totally ideal. But that is no longer allowed now.

Parking fee

A new law has been passed stating that parking fees must be paid. However, not everyone in Paris knows this is the case, as evidenced by the huge number of parking fines written in the French capital over the past month.

For three months

Starting September 1 this year, you had to pay parking fees for your two-wheeler in the City of Love. This love the French city does not have for internal combustion engines, as parking fees are now mandatory for all two-wheelers with internal combustion engines. So electric variants are still allowed to park for free. The fines ranged from 25 to 37.5 euros. More than 200,000 have been issued, generating at least 5 million euros for the French government.

3 euros per hour

The parking rate for scooters and motorcycles in the French capital is the same in every spot. This fee is 3 euros per hour. The rule was instituted to – how could it be otherwise – encourage people to make the switch to electric two-wheelers. In this way, Parisians can save money while contributing to a cleaner Paris. Starting in 2023, you can also be fined in Paris for producing too loud noise. There are already systems in place today that can detect that, and automatically issue fines starting in 2023. So be careful for motorcycle enthusiasts who want to visit the French capital.
