New BMW M5 has plug connection!
BMW M5: V8 + electric power!
Just to dive right in, what kind of powertrain will the new BMW M5 have? The car combines a BMW M TwinPower Turbo 4.4-liter V8 gasoline engine with an electric motor. This transfers power to the road via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and MxDrive all-wheel drive. This technology provides impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
Drivetrain BMW M5 in detail
The latest version of the BMW M TwinPower Turbo 4.4-liter engine features a so-called cross-bank exhaust manifold and an optimized oil separation process. Cooling and oil supply systems are also optimized for track use. In the BMW M5 Sedan, the gasoline engine delivers a maximum output of 430 kW (585 hp) at speeds between 5,600 and 6,500 rpm. Torque of 750 Nm is available between 1,800 and 5,400 rpm. The new BMW M5’s V8 engine can rev up to 7,200 rpm. The electric motor produces 145 kW (197 hp) and 280 Nm of torque (temporarily up to 450 Nm in the pre-gearing stage). Top speed is standard limited at 250 km/h, but with the optional M Driver’s Pack, the BMW M5 reaches 305 km/h.
Battery and range in EV mode
In all-electric mode, the new BMW M5 can reach speeds of up to 140 mph. The high-voltage battery, placed low in the car, has 18.6 kWh of usable energy. This enables an electric range of 67 to 69 kilometers, according to the WLTP test cycle. The charging connector of the new BMW M5 allows charging with alternating current up to 7.4 kW.
M xDrive all-wheel drive system
All forces are transferred to the road surface via the intelligent M xDrive all-wheel drive system. In 4WD Sport mode, the tuning of this system is particularly focused on the rear wheels. The driver can also choose 2WD mode. As a result, drive is sent only to the rear wheels when Dynamic Stability Control is disabled. On the rear axle, the model has an electronically controlled M active differential.
Undercarriage BMW M5
The BMW M5 comes standard with an adaptive M suspension, equipped with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering. The latter system allows the rear wheels to be steered by up to 1.5 degrees. Rotating the rear wheels as desired improves directional stability at high speed, as well as agility and comfort during low-speed maneuvering.
Braking
Both standard M Compound brakes and optional cabon ceramic brakes are combined with an integrated braking system that offers the driver two brake pedal settings. Alloy M wheels (20 inches on the front axle, 21 inches at the rear) are standard and can be optionally fitted with sport tires.
Interior BMW M5
The new BMW M5 comes standard with an enhanced version of BMW iDrive. It is based on BMW Operating System 8.5 and designed for use via the iDrive controller and touch and voice controls. Standard Merino leather upholstery, the BMW Interaction Bar, four-zone air conditioning, heated front seats, ambient lighting with M-specific interior lighting, including Welcome and Goodbye Animation, and the glass panoramic roof also play a role in the exclusive ambience of the interior. Standard equipment for the new BMW M5 offers customers the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system, a wireless charging charger, Comfort Access, an alarm system and automatic tailgate control.
Options BMW M5
The options list includes the M Carbon exterior package, an Alcantara headliner, active seat ventilation and a tow hitch. From launch, model-specific BMW M Performance parts will also be offered for the new BMW M5. The selection includes forged alloy wheels from M Performance and exterior components made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).
