Looking for a Mazda CX6?
Mazda CX6 is model for American market
Although, you may know the car as CX-50. That car is based in part on the Mazda CX-30 and reserved exclusively for the American market. The compact SUV, by American standards, made its debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in late 2021 and is slated to hit the U.S. market in the second half of 2022. It is powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and features all-wheel drive.
CX-5, CX-6 and CX-7
In itself, the name “Mazda CX-6” was not an illogical search. At Mazda, the letters CX denote the SUV models: there was a CX-7 from 2006 to 2012, and since 2012 there has been a Mazda CX-5. The CX-6 would have fit in nicely among them. Since 2019, Mazda has had the CX-30 in its lineup, an SUV just below the CX-5.
Brand new plug-in hybrid SUV: CX-60
But perhaps you were looking for the Mazda CX-60, which appeared this year. The CX-60 is not only Mazda’s latest SUV, it is also the brand’s first plug-in hybrid. With a length of 4.75 meters, the CX-60 is definitely a mature SUV by European standards.
Mazda CX-5, CX-3 and CX-30
Mazda has been offering the current CX-5 since early 2017. This SUV is slightly smaller than the CX-60 and comes exclusively with gasoline and diesel engines. The 2015 CX-3 was still a bit smaller; meanwhile, the Mazda CX-30 has already replaced the CX-3. The CX-30 is available with a gasoline engine and as a so-called mild-hybrid, which means that an electric motor supports the gasoline engine. The CX-30 protects its adult occupants like no other: never before has a car achieved a score as high as 99 percent on this part of the Euro NCAP crash test.
Mazda MX-30
Since 2020, there is also the all-electric Mazda MX-30. No, this is not a sports car like the MX-5, but a crossover, equipped with so-called “Freestyle” doors. This means that the B-pillar is missing and the rear doors are hinged at the rear. That gives a very big entry point. The range of this electric crossover is about two hundred kilometers in the combined WLTP cycle.
Mazda6
We have known about the Mazda6 since 2002, but it is not an SUV, MPV or crossover model. The Mazda 6 – Mazda spells the name without a space, but almost everyone calls it Mazda 6 – has been around since 2002 – as a hatchback (through 2012), sedan and station wagon. Mazda calls the latter the Sportbreak, to emphasize that it is a sporty station wagon.
In the Netherlands
Mazda caused a stir in the 1990s with a TV ad for the Mazda MX-3, which featured the world’s smallest V6 engine. In the video, six “gnomes” jump up and down as if they were the pistons in the MX-3’s six tiny cylinders.
