Logan Sargeant: Who is this new Formula One driver?
Popular
Thanks to the popular Netflix series Drive to Survive, Americans finally seem to have Formula One at heart. The race in Austin, Texas invariably sells out, and in 2023 there are as many as three races in the USA on the calendar:
- May 7: Miami
- Oct. 22: Austin
- November 18: Las Vegas
American Formula One driver
Until now, the American public has always had to cheer for a “foreigner,” but starting in 2023, that will change. For the first time since Scott Speed in 2007, a full-time American F1 driver is competing again. His name is Logan Hunter Sargeant, a 21-year-old American racing driver who until recently was active in the FIA Formula 2 championship. The driver stood out in his rookie season in Formula 2 and was named “Rookie of the Year.” The Williams Formula One team offered him a contract in 2022, making him part of the Formula One circus from 2023.
Pianist
Logan came into the world on Dec. 31, 2000, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Logan Sargeant is the son of Chantal and Tim Sargeant. A big hobby of the young driver is playing the piano. He has an older brother, Stuart, who works as an engineer in California. Logan’s mother, Chantal, is a retired French and English teacher. So a pretty good family, where does the love for blazing fast racing cars come from? He got those from his grandfather. After all, who was a professional race car driver.
Young age
Logan began his motorsports career at a young age. In 2008, he competed in national karting championships for the first time. In 2009, he moved to Europe. Sargeant won the world karting championship there in 2015, becoming the first American to win an FIA karting championship since 1978.
Good start
After a brief career in Formula 4 and Formula Renault Eurocup, Sargeant entered Formula 3 in 2019. In 2020, he went to drive for Prema Racing, where he had great success. He got on the podium twice and finished fourth in the championship. He also won the Formula 3 race at Spa Franchorchamps, a huge highlight of his career so far. In 2021, he made his debut in Formula 2, where he competed for the Williams F1 team. In late 2022, it was announced that Logan may get behind the wheel of the Williams car in 2023.
Second rider
The American driver will become Alex Albon’s teammate at Williams in 2023. The American replaces Nicholas Latifi, who was not given a new contract at the British racing stable. Williams team owner Jost Capito sees a great talent in Logan Sargeant. “We saw his progress and came to the conclusion halfway through the Formula 2 season that it was the right move for him to go to Formula 1 as soon as possible. He is ready to take the next step. I’m sure a great future awaits him”.
