Lightyear is working hard behind the scenes to develop the Lightyear 2. The car should go into production in late 2025 and takes technology from the costly Lightyear 0. So the 2 also gets solar panels.

Lightyear 0 and 2 are not solar cars, but BEVs

By the way, it is often said in the media that the Lightyear is a solar car, but that is incorrect. Lightyear’s models are battery-electric cars, but solar panels on the car allow for recharging on the road – or when the car is stationary. The same trick Toyota applies to its Prius Plug-in Hybrid. Sono Motors Sion also has similar technology. So not a solar car, but a BEV with solar panels.

Technical data and design

Lightyear will present the complete design as well as technical specifications of the Lightyear 2 in the summer of 2023. So then we can also tell more about this new car from Dutch soil. The car brand is already releasing some teaser images, but does not elaborate on the technology yet. Although: one thing is already promised: the car should be able to drive 800 kilometers on a full charge of electricity, but only under favorable sunny conditions. The location where you drive has a big impact on range. In sunny places, a Lightyear is in its element. The car also gets extremely aerodynamic design for the lowest possible drag.
