Here’s how to avoid distractions in traffic
Preventing distractions
Prevention is better than cure. The same goes for distractions from phone use. One of the main causes of these distractions are incoming messages. Since you can’t watch those while driving anyway, it’s better to make sure they don’t get in at all. This can be done in several ways.
You can just turn off your Internet on the road, but then you have to remember to turn it back on after the ride. More convenient is to install a special “on-the-go app. These are now available from several providers. The app recognizes when you are on the go and then blocks incoming messages. For really important contacts and/or emergencies, you can often set an exception.
Also, you can simply let the contacts you are expecting a message from know when you will be driving. Consider the new government campaign Me no appen! If your contacts know you’re on the road and so they’d better not disturb you, it will also be quieter on your phone while driving.
Use phone anyway? Then use these accessories
Still, there might just be a really important message in between, or maybe you also use your phone for music on the go. Then you better make sure you can use your phone safely. With a car mount, for example. With this, you simply attach your phone to the dashboard or windshield of the car in a convenient place. There is no need to hold your phone and it is always in a highly visible place with minimal distraction from traffic.
What is also very convenient is a wireless charger with stand. Then you can not only put your phone in a convenient place, but also charge it right away! Or you put a wireless charger in a car storage compartment. Then, if you don’t use your phone while driving and put it in the storage compartment, it will be rewarded with a charged battery!
Also practical for the car
Also convenient, and often more economical than a wireless charger, is a charger that you can plug into the car’s 12V socket (cigarette lighter). Then just charge your phone via a cord and you can hang your phone with the car mount in whatever spot is convenient. Another practical in-car phone accessory are a microphone for when you make frequent phone calls. Then you don’t have to make voice calls through the smartphone’s speaker.
