Ford Mustang GTD: prices start at 476,800 euros! Rigorous selection process!
Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series
The new Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series is available with a so-called Performance package upon request. This package plays an important role in the pursuit of a lap under seven minutes at the famous Nürburgring, and offers canards and a larger splitter at the front, flaps at the bottom of the body and an air resistance reduction system on the rear spoiler.
Lightweight package
The active aerodynamic elements of the Performance package reduce drag on straights without compromising aerodynamic grip in corners. The Performance package also includes a Lightweight package that contains less sound deadening material and to which, in addition to a unique front end, 20-inch magnesium rims have been added. And although the Performance package is part of this Carbon Series model, the package is available for the entire Mustang GTD series.
Interior Ford Mustang GTD
The GTD interior will be seen for the first time at Le Mans. The Recaro seats in the interior are up to the task and form a unit with the new steering wheel in the Mustang GTD. The steering wheel has a flat bottom and features a thick, padded, leather-wrapped rim with exclusive Dinamica inserts and carbon fiber inserts. Exclusive to the Mustang GTD are buttons on the steering wheel that allow the driver, without losing sight of the road, to adjust suspension stiffness and exhaust mode to determine how the Mustang GTD performs in corners and sounds during acceleration. The soundtrack of the supercar is produced by a powerful 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces more than 800 horsepower.
Track Apps page
Two new buttons have been added to the main panel before the gear shift knob for accessing the Track Apps page and activating the feature that allows the front axle to be raised to take obstacles in parking lots and driveways.
3D printed titanium shift paddles
The unmissable, 3D-printed titanium shift paddles give drivers more control over the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The hefty, hexagonal shift paddles are light and give the driver’s fingers a good grip. Titanium trim is also available on the shift knob on the center console.
Different colors
The Ford Mustang GTD is painted in the new Chroma Flame. This color is exclusive to the Mustang GTD and, along with Polymimetic Gray, Race Red, Shadow Black, Frozen White and Lightning Blue, is one of six colors for the Mustang GTD. The dark red hue blends brilliantly with the Carbon Series elements.
To accentuate the carbon fiber body, the Carbon Series leaves the hood, roof and rear Tech Deck unpainted, and the rims (aluminum or magnesium) are finished in Magnetite. Racing stripes in a contrasting color are available, as are calipers in Grabber Blue, Race Red or Black.
Specific software
The Mustang’s advanced software suite is taken to the next level with the GTD. The Unreal Engine gaming technology that runs the SYNC 4 infotainment system now features Mustang GTD-specific graphics on the 13.2-inch touchscreen and a 12.4-inch reconfigurable, digital instrument cluster. Each of the six driving modes is tailored to the Mustang GTD, and the new Performance instrument cluster is exclusive to the GTD. On the instrument panel, the gear indicator and tachometer occupy a central position and all unnecessary information has been omitted.

Selection process
Ford expects there will be more potential buyers than there are Mustang GTDs available. Ford will select from the collection of applications submitted to determine which applicants will have the opportunity to purchase a Mustang GTD. A variety of factors will be considered, including Ford and Mustang ownership, involvement in motorsports and enthusiasm for the automotive industry. Ford plans to produce very limited quantities of the Mustang GTD, with about 300 to 700 units per model year. Applicants will be notified of selection no later than late summer 2024.
Ford Mustang GTD street-legal though?
For European markets, the Mustang GTD is currently undergoing the review process (known as “type approval”) to allow the vehicle to be used on the road. If this approval cannot be obtained, then in certain markets the Mustang GTD may be used only on the track.
