F1 Zandvoort 2022: How to get there? Transport and parking tips
Busy
During the race weekend, you should expect more crowds than usual in and around Zandvoort. You’ll probably remember the images of the packed orange stands in 2021. The 2022 edition will be much busier because there are now no corona restrictions. The result is fuller trains and buses, longer queues, crowded access roads, and more transfer time. To avoid the crowds, it is wise to be at the track before nine o’clock or only come after noon. When leaving for home, it is smart to leave the track before five o’clock or after nine o’clock. This way you avoid the biggest crowds.
Public Transportation
Going to the track by car is actually not possible. Only a few bobos and people who work there get access to the circuit grounds with their cars. Of course, you can park your car at a station on the route to the circuit and then transfer to the bus or train. During the event, there are special places where you can park your car and there are extra trains per hour heading to Zandvoort.
Special NS timetable
To handle the crowds during F1 weekend, a train will depart every five minutes between Amsterdam Centraal and Zandvoort. For example, NS brings some 10,000 (!) passengers back and forth each hour. Twelve trains per hour on the Amsterdam CS – Zandvoort route is exceptional for NS. In fact, on a normal day, only two trains an hour run to the small coastal town. To avoid huge queues at the ticket machines, it is recommended to purchase a NS Dutch Grand Prix Return ticket in advance. You can purchase this ticket online here.
Haarlem railway station
If you really want to park your car as close to the circuit as possible, you have to go to Haarlem. At the Haarlem train station there is a parking garage with over 400 parking spaces. From Haarlem it is only a ten minute train ride to Zandvoort aan Zee station and the circuit is within walking distance of the station. However, you won’t be the only one who wants to park in Haarlem. You can luckily reserve a spot in the parking garage, but you shouldn’t wait too long to do so. You can reserve a parking space here.
Park & Ride
Boarding somewhere else in the Netherlands is of course also possible and probably wiser, given the crowds around Haarlem Station. For example, there are special Park+Ride garages in Amsterdam and Amstelveen. Here you can park your car and continue your journey to the circuit by public transport. From these parking garages, buses go directly to the entrance of the CM.com Circuit Zandvoort. You can read more about this on a dedicated Q-Park website.
The leg carriage
Zandvoort is for the most part a pedestrian area during the F1 weekend. Therefore, everyone will have to walk the last part of the journey to the track. Like a true sea of orange, you’ll cover the final miles to the track together. So make sure you don’t put on old, worn-out sneakers, but a pair of sturdy footwear.
Bicycles
Of course, if you live in the area, you can go to the track by bike. But if you live further away, you might consider that too. In fact, there are Park+Bike locations in the vicinity of Circuit Zandvoort. At these locations you can park your car and rent a bike. From these locations, it is about a 30-35 minute bike ride to the track. Of course, you can also throw your bike in the back of your car, or take it with you on a bike rack. Even then, you may park your car here so you can bike the last few miles. Read more about the Park+Bike option here. Please note that you are not allowed to bring your bike on the train during the race weekend.
