Cupra DarkRebel
The Cupra DarkRebel is the first show car to have its world premiere at Metahype, Cupra’s own world within the metaverse. The DarkRebel, like the new Tavascan, also features Cupra’s new design language. Soon the brand will also show the physical version of the DarkRebel show car, with the final look of the car determined by users’ submitted configurations.
“For five years we have built the Cupra brand in the face of the realistic world. Now it’s time to start thinking about our future. Our next dream. The Cupra DarkRebel is the ultimate expression of our vision,” stated Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra.
Sharp lines
The Cupra DarkRebel is characterized by sharp lines and the sporty proportions of a sports car, wrapped in a shooting break design. The show car has a radical and sharp front end, with an endlessly long, arrow-shaped hood that, according to its creators, creates a maximum sense of speed. In contrast, the interior compartment is positioned rearward, resulting in attractive proportions. The triangular light signature – Cupra’s new iconic lighting design – has also been considered.
Video game-look steering wheel
The CUPRA DarkRebel is “driver focused,” with a radical interior featuring an asymmetrical, central “Spine” as the structural core of the car. Eye-catchers are the sporty bucket seats and progressive video game-look steering wheel.
Hyper Configurator
Simultaneously with the launch of the spectacular DarkRebel, the brand created a virtual lab: the so-called Hyper Configurator. There, users can give full rein to their creativity without the constraints of the physical feasibility of their designs in the real world. In the Hyper Configurator, users can experiment with never-before-seen colors, materials and finishes. Cupra’s Hyper Configurator provides the tools that allow everyone to create their own version of the show car. In this way, users help influence the final design of a physical model to be presented in the near future.
Three environments
The Hyper Configurator allows you to change specific elements of the car – such as colors, graphics and effects. In doing so, users can choose from three environments: ‘Exponential square,’ ‘Exponential cube’ and ‘Exponential infinite,’ within which they can fully customize the show car to create their own personalized CUPRA DarkRebel:
-Exponentialsquare: inspired by natural elements such as minerals and stones, CUPRA’s rough textures and earthy colors can be experienced by the user here.
-Exponentialcube: this is where you get a soft spot for motorsports. Neon, algorithmic motion, parametric geometries and fluorescent light can be experimented with. Sleek and vibrant, orthogonal and fluid at the same time.
-Exponentialinfinite: the highest level of exponential breaks the connection with reality and embraces a dreamy, otherworldly and surreal universe without the constraints of the physical world. The environment and material choices are dominated by an ethereal feel that creates a fully realized metaverse.
Video sharing afterwards
Upon completing the configuration, users can share a video of their unique creation. With this “one-off” design and its high-performance technology, the DarkRebel is on all fronts a distinctive sports car that makes a clear statement.
