Car prices in A-segment increased again, new records!
Car prices in A-segment increased again
Thanks to increasingly strict BPM rules and more expensive raw materials, among other things, car prices continue to rise. In the A-segment, these price increases hit extra hard, especially since every euro counts in this market segment. The cheapest passenger car in the Netherlands is still the Mitsubishi Space Star. Read a comprehensive review of that Space Star, including video, here.
Space Star is 500 euros more expensive
This Japanese five-door hatchback previously had a price tag of at least 15,990 euros, but that amount increased to 16,490 euros as of March 2023, including 3,239 euros in BPM. Net, the Space Star costs a minimum of 10,282 euros. There is a price increase of 500 euros. Only from the Connect+ do you get air conditioning. This version costs 18,490 euros.
Also price hike Kia Picanto
The Kia Picanto – one of the most popular A-segment cars – saw a more substantial price increase. The Picanto previously had a price tag of 16,495 euros, but now costs 750 euros more. That results in a starting price of 17,245 euros. Air conditioning is included for that amount. No one buys a car without air conditioning anymore, Kia understands that perfectly well. The Kia Picanto even seems like a better deal than the Dacia Sandero, where a variant with air conditioning costs at least 18,450 euros. However, the Dacia Sandero does have a lower starting price at 16,700 euros.
Hyundai i10 also more expensive
The Hyundai i10 – a little brother of the Kia Picanto – even saw a price increase of 1,000 euros. Previously, the South Korean automaker was asking 16,595 euros for a base i10. That has now become 17,595 euros. That amount still does not include air conditioning. You only get that from the second trim level, which costs at least 19,695 euros.
Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda dropped in price
The Fiat 500 with 70-hp gasoline engine has remarkably dropped in price. The starting price was previously at least 19,290 euros. But now the Dutch importer is asking only 17,990 euros. Yes, that amount includes air conditioning. A good move by Fiat. After all, it only saves 1,300 euros. The Fiat Panda has also dropped sharply in price. You used to pay 18,450 euros, but that has now been reduced to 17,190 euros. That amount also includes a manual air conditioner with pollen filter. The Panda thus became 1,260 euros cheaper.
What about the Suzuki Ignis and Swift?
In contrast, the price of a Suzuki Ignis has risen again. Previously, Suzuki was still asking €19,995 for a base Ignis. That is now a minimum of 20,995 euros. Preferably 1,000 euros more so. The same goes for the Suzuki Swift. Technically, of course, that is a B-segment car, but with the same price as an Ignis. Also, the Swift now costs a minimum of 20,995 euros, an increase of 1,000 euros. The starting price of the Toyota Aygo X has remained the same at 18,595 euros.
