In 2007 the first Volkswagen Tiguan appeared, with which Volkswagen entered the then just growing segment of compact crossover/SUV models. The name Tiguan is a contraction of ‘tiger’ and ‘iguana’, the German words for ‘tiger’ and ‘iguana’. The Tiguan turned out to be a good move, because Volkswagen managed to achieve good sales worldwide with it.

Bigger, squarer, sportier
After an interim facelift in 2011, the model really needed to be replaced in 2016. Then the current model appeared. The car grew slightly in size and where the first model was still quite round, the new Tiguan got a fairly square body. There was also a version that can be seen as a sports model for the first time: the largest available petrol engine was also found in the Golf GTI.
Two extra men
With the current generation, the Tiguan is also available in more than one body style for the first time. The car is now also available with a slightly longer body and two extra seats. This model is called Allspace. In some countries this longer version is the only Tiguan model that is delivered and in that case this model is listed there as the ‘regular’ Tiguan in the price lists.
