BMW X5
The first generation BMW X5 appeared on the market in 1999 and had the internal code name E35. The BMW X5 sparked a trend in the automotive world, as it was one of the first SUVs. Other pioneers are the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Lexus RX. Various other manufacturers then also stepped into the more luxurious SUV segment because the X5 was an unprecedented success. The second generation BMW X5 arrived in 2006 and remained available until 2013. The third generation BMW X5 was built from 2014 to 2018. In 2018, BMW presented the fourth generation X5. BMW manufactures the X5 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Competitors
We have already mentioned several competitors of the BMW X5. Think of the Lexus RX. Other counterparts include the Volkswagen Touareg, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. BMW also supplies a coupé variant of the BMW X5. It has the name X6.
engines
BMW supplies the X5 with various diesel and petrol engines. If an X5 has four-wheel drive, you can tell by the name xDrive. A version without four-wheel drive has the addition sDrive. The German carmaker also supplies super-sporty versions of the BMW X5, developed with the help of BMW M. A typical example is the BMW X5 M.
