BMW’s X-model range was still nice and clear in 2003: the Bavarian brand only offered the X5. That year, the BMW X3 was introduced as a smaller alternative. The car was based on the 3 Series platform and had to combine the advantages of a compact car with the driving experience of the larger X5.
BMW’s X-model range was still nice and clear in 2003: the Bavarian brand only offered the X5. That year, the BMW X3 was introduced as a smaller alternative. The car was based on the 3 Series platform and had to combine the advantages of a compact car with the driving experience of the larger X5.
Big step forward
That was moderately successful, because the driving characteristics of the car were criticized, along with the design and the price. Despite this, the car managed to hold out with reasonable sales until 2010. The following year the second generation appeared, which in just about every way took a big step forward compared to the first model.
Taller
That model, in turn, evolved into the current generation launched in 2017, which has since grown larger than the very first X5 was. The current X3 is also the first BMW where the generation is indicated with a G number (G01) instead of an F number. The new X3 takes over several technological matters from the 5 Series and will now also be available as a plug-in hybrid.
