BMW XM ‘Label Red’: the most powerful BMW is not to be missed
Few would label the BMW XM ‘s 653 hp as “on the skinny side. In the world of super-SUVs, however, the horsepower race is in full swing, and in this, of course, BMW M cannot be left behind. Therefore, in terms of combined power – it is a plug-in hybrid, after all – the BMW XM Label Red pretty much wipes the floor with the competition: 748 hp and a whopping 1,000 Nm of torque! That’s 95 hp and 200 Nm more than the regular XM. Of that power, the 4.4-liter big blown V8 accounts for 585 hp; the electric motor accounts for another 197 hp.
Needless to say, these numbers make for splashy performances. The XM Label Red sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and its top speed is basically capped at 250 km/h. Basically, because with the M Driver’s Pack, the limit can be raised to a whopping 290 km/h!
The most powerful BMW M ever
With that monstrous system power, the BMW XM Label Red immediately takes the title of “the most powerful BMW M ever. Of course, the car with that designation should not go unnoticed by the outside world. The name actually gives it away: the XM Label Red is identified mainly by the accent strips in the color “Toronto Red” around the grille and side windows. At the rear, the XM Label Red has a red-rimmed diffuser and the XM logo has a red background. Are the red accent strips not quite your thing after all? No worries, they are also optionally available in black.
Furthermore, if desired, the XM Label Red sits on black wheels with red accents in size 22-inches. The standard wheel size is 21-inches. Of course, BMW Individual lets you customize the entire car to your liking with numerous choices for paint and interior colors. The pictured introductory version of the XM Label Red has a limited edition of 500 units and comes in BMW Individual Frozen Carbonschwarz Metallic color.
Price BMW XM Label Red
Compared to the regular BMW XM, the BMW XM Label Red does require quite a bit of cutting. Whereas at the time of writing the XM is available from just over 177,000 euros, you will pay a whopping 203,700 euros for the XM Label Red. Fortunately, the Dutch purchase price is still somewhat depressed by the fact that the XM Label Red is a plug-in hybrid. In fact, on paper, the car emits only 35 to 39 grams of CO2 per kilometer. We expressly say “on paper,” because when you let the V8 roar, of course, not much remains of those low emissions….
A cheaper XM: the XM 50e
For those who still find the hybrid V8 under the hood of the current XM and XM Label Red a bit too much to handle, BMW M will soon come out with a new variant of the XM: the XM 50th. That variant, also a plug-in hybrid, has a six-in-line under the hood that, together with an electric motor, should produce a system output of 475 hp and 700 Nm of torque. With that, the 50th accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. What this XM-light will cost is not clear at the time of writing, as BMW is still keeping detailed information under wraps for now.
