Alpine A290: there is a green light!
Dream garagE of Alpine
The Alpine A290 is the first of three new models in Alpine’s future “Dream garagE. In fact, the A290 is an electric reincarnation of the iconic Renault 5 Turbo. The Renault 5 also returns to the market, but the sporty variant is sold under Alpine designation.
New chapter
“The A290_β opens a new chapter in Alpine’s exciting history. The brand – taking inspiration from its motorsport heritage – is entering new market segments and doing so first with an electric sports car for the city. The design, materials used and technology in the concept version show the new perspective on electric cars: as suitable for use on the track as in everyday life.”
A forward-looking name
The choice of the A290_β name is based on Alpine’s global naming strategy. Type names of Alpine always consist of the letter A and three digits. The number 2 refers to the B-segment and the number 90 represents Alpine’s future Lifestyle program. The Greek letter beta indicates an intermediate stage leading to the production version, the A290. Its introduction is scheduled for 2024. The electric motor for the car will be produced at Renault Group’s mega-plant in Cléon in northwestern France.
Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine, said: “The A290_β is the first step we are taking into the new era of Alpine, towards the all-electric ‘Dream garagE’ of 2024. This concept car has rewritten the rules of the game for electric-powered hot hatchbacks. The A290_β builds on Alpine’s rich heritage and leads the brand into the future. The model offers everyday driving pleasure mixed with the atmosphere of motorsport that has inspired Alpine since its inception.”
