All about the updated Peugeot 208 (2024)
Success number Peugeot 208
In just over three years – since its market launch in 2019 – nearly 1,000,000 units of the PEUGEOT 208 have been produced worldwide. In 2021 and 2022, the Peugeot 208 was the best-selling model overall in Europe and the best-selling car in the Netherlands in 2022. This success is partly due to the popularity of the Peugeot E-208: Europe’s and the Netherlands’ best-selling electric car in the B-segment in 2022.
The lineup of the new Peugeot 208 includes three trims: ALLURE, ACTIVE and GT. There is also a choice of six powertrains, including the new HYBRID 100 and HYBRID 136 and the all-electric variant with a 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor and a range of 400 kilometers (WLTP combined, preliminary value).
Design Peugeot 208 (2024)
After Peugeot’s new light signature was first shown on the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar, then on the new Peugeot 508 and 508 SW and most recently on the new Peugeot 2008, it is now also a key element of the new Peugeot E-208. The three long vertical “light claws” make this signature extra distinctive and are integrated into the high-gloss black inserts in the bumper.
They have been moved further to the corners, making the car optically more robust and wider. All versions of the new 208 feature this new front light signature. On the GT version, this lighting design goes even one step further: the fascinating effect of the three light claws has been extended to the illumination function of the full-LED headlights using three independent optical modules.
Front with a new look
All versions of the Peugeot 208 are characterized by a completely new front end, with the new brand logo at its center, with which the 208 now also embraces Peugeot’s latest design language. The grille has a flared pattern in body color that flows into the bumper. This design refers to the electrification of the model program and makes the new E-208 even more balanced. The grille and bodywork are no longer separate components, but are now one unit. Thus, the design becomes even more modern and exudes even more robustness and efficiency.
New taillight signature
The new E-208 reinterprets the rear light signature typical of Peugeot, with three juxtaposed red “claws. The model remains true to the three light elements, but they are now placed horizontally. They are composed of three elegant LED strips that optically extend the black frame on the tailgate. This gives the car a more powerful rear view and makes it optically wider. In the GT version, the reversing lights and turn signals also use LED technology.
Striking new colors
The new Peugeot E-208 looks more attractive than ever in the new introductory color Jaune Agueda. Also new to the 208’s offering is the body color Gris Selenium, which elegantly and subtly underlines the modern design. A total of seven body colors are available for the 208: Jaune Agueda, Gris Selenium, Gris Artense, Noir Perla Nera, Blanc Banquise, Rouge Elixir and Bleu Vertigo. All versions have high-gloss black exterior mirror caps, regardless of the body color chosen. The GT has standard high-gloss black wheel well moldings (and an optional black roof).
New wheel designs
The new wheels are one of the main landmarks of the new Peugeot design. Following the Peugeot 408, the unusual wheel designs will also be offered on the brand’s other new models. The new Peugeot E-208 is available with alloy wheels in several new designs, in 16-inch (NOMA two-tone diamond-cut wheels or 17-inch (YANAKA two-tone diamond-cut wheels with inserts). All alloy wheels have a four-spoke center with Peugeot logo covering the wheel bolts.
New brand identity
The lettering on the front, flanks and rear of the new Peugeot 208 has a new font in a new basalt-gray color. At the rear, the Peugeot brand name is now loose across the entire width of the tailgate. The E-208 has an “E” badge in blue and white.
New coverings
The interior of the new Peugeot 208 has been upgraded with new seat covers, such as black Alcantara upholstery with stitching in Vert Adamite (optional for the GT). The GT version marks the highest level of equipment with great attention to detail: the dashboard and armrests also feature elegant stitching in Vert Adamite.
New design for the digital instrument panel
The instrument panel is placed at ideal eye level for the driver and features a digital screen on ALLURE and GT versions. Its generous 10-inch display features a new design, while the GT comes standard with a 3D display. The driver can customize both the color of the display and the layout and information displayed to their own preferences. As before, the ACTIVE version has an analog instrument panel with a 3.5-inch color screen.
Standard 10-inch central touchscreen
Whereas the first two trim levels previously featured a 7-inch screen, a central 10-inch touchscreen is now standard for all versions of the 208. The interface makes operating the latest generation of Peugeot i-Connect and Peugeot i-Connect Advanced infotainment systems even easier. In the new Peugeot 208 ALLURE and GT, the central display features HD technology. In all versions, the rocker switches are still located below the display screen for quick access to important functions.
Compact steering wheel
Characteristic of the Peugeot i-Cockpit® is the compact steering wheel that guarantees unparalleled agility, precision and driving pleasure. The compact steering wheel features the new Peugeot logo and, where applicable, the new GT logo on the lower part of the steering wheel rim. For optimal ergonomics, it also includes the controls for the multimedia system (audio, phone) and for volume and voice control.
Ambient lighting for GT version
Eight colors for the dynamic ambient lighting are available for the new Peugeot 208 GT, including several new ones. The various colors are now aligned with those of the central touchscreen and take into account the selected driving mode, if applicable.
Modernized gearshift
For improved ergonomics, the manual versions of the Peugeot 208 feature a new gear knob. Automatic transmission versions will keep the elegant and practical transmission switch introduced in spring 2022.
Drivetrain Peugeot e-208
The new Peugeot E-208 broadens its horizons by taking a big step forward in electrification and connectivity. The new 100% electric powertrain with a range of 400 kilometers (preliminary value) and the new hybrid powertrains offer new perspectives.
New Peugeot e-208 with 400 km range
The new Peugeot E-208 is equipped with a 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor powered by a 51 kWh battery. The range is 400 kilometers (WLTP combined, preliminary value) and a 3-phase 11 kW on-board charger is standard. Also, the Peugeot E-208 can be recharged at a DC fast charging station with a power of up to 100 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 20% to 80% in less than 25 minutes.
The Peugeot E-208 with the current powertrain, good for a power output of 100 kW (136 hp) and a range of 362 kilometers (WLTP), remains available unchanged.
New hybrid powertrains
For customers desiring a partially electrified car, the Peugeot 208 is available with a choice of two new 48V HYBRID powertrains. These combine a 74 kW (100 hp) or 100 kW (136 hp) latest-generation PureTech gasoline engine with the electrified e-DCS6 6 dual-clutch transmission with built-in electric motor. Thanks to a battery that charges while driving, this technology offers extra torque at low speeds and 15% lower fuel consumption. In urban areas, the new Peugeot 208 HYBRID 100 and HYBRID 136 can cover more than 50% of the drive in zero-emission, 100% electric driving mode.
Two internal combustion engines
In addition to the all-electric E-208 and hybrid variants, there is also a choice of two efficient gasoline versions:
– PureTech 75: 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with 55 kW (75 hp), combined with a five-speed manual transmission and a Stop & Start system.
– PureTech 100: 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with 74 kW (100 hp), combined with a six-speed manual transmission and a Stop & Start system.
Newest generation of Peugeot i-Connect
The new Peugeot 208 comes standard with infotainment system PEUGEOT i-Connect. The PEUGEOT i-Connect Advanced system is optional. Both systems are controlled via the easy-to-customize, central 10-inch HD touchscreen. The multi-window display with widgets or shortcuts is easy to use and as interactive as a smartphone. The user can easily swipe from left to right through the various menus, top to bottom for notifications, or by tapping with three fingers to access the application screen.
Returning to the main screen can be done at any time by operating the “Home” switch at the bottom of the screen. At the top of the screen, a permanent banner displays information about outdoor temperature and air conditioning, position in the widget pages, connectivity data, notifications and the time.
PEUGEOT i-Connect offers optimum connectivity thanks to the wireless “Mirror Screen” function Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The optional, even more comprehensive system PEUGEOT i-Connect Advanced includes high-performance TomTom connected navigation, with the road map displayed on the full 10-inch screen for optimal readability.
System updates are done “over the air,” and the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced system can also be controlled via natural voice recognition. Via the spoken command “Ok Peugeot,” a variety of infotainment functions can be controlled. To assist users and answer their questions, the system also includes on-board documentation and tutorials.
More USB connections
The new 208 ALLURE and GT now have three USB-C connectors (two in the front, one in the rear) and one USB-A connector (in the rear) as standard.
Induction charger for smartphones
The ALLURE version is optionally available with a 15W induction charger for smartphones (previously: 5W). It is standard for the GT version. The placement behind the flap in the center console allows quick charging of the smartphone while it is in use for the wireless “Mirror Screen” function.
HD parking assist cameras
The new front and rear parking assist cameras on the new Peugeot 208 now offer a high-definition image. Depending on the version, the new high-definition front camera (coupled with blind spot monitoring) is now available as an option. The camera provides a 360° view of the car’s immediate surroundings, which is particularly useful during parking and maneuvering.
Numerous driver assistance systems
The new Peugeot 208 offers a wide range of assistance systems that make driving easier and safer:
– Adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function and adjustable distance to the car in front.
– Automatic emergency braking: recognizes pedestrians and cyclists, day and night, at speeds between 7 km/h and 140 km/h.
– Comprehensive traffic sign recognition with instrument panel display: stop signs and one-way and (end of) overtaking prohibition signs, in addition to the usual speed-related warnings.
– Active Lane Departure Warning with steering correction.
– Driver Attention Alert recognizes driver fatigue during long drives and at speeds above 65 mph by analyzing minimal movements of the steering wheel.
– Blind spot monitoring
Online purchase and service
Depending on the market, the new Peugeot E-208 can also be purchased online, for a 100% secure, digital customer experience (“Online ordering”). Here, customers can purchase a new car, trade-in an old one and take out financing, just easily via smartphone, tablet or PC. Free home delivery of the new car is also among the options.
Guarantee
In addition, customers of the Peugeot E-208 can count on a 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty. A certificate confirming the battery capacity is also handed over after a service.
New features for the Peugeot E-208 thanks to MyPeugeot app:
The app provides a virtual service book where all work done on the car and associated invoices are kept in an electronic folder. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also helps to document the car in the best possible way, which can be valuable if the car is ever traded back or resold.
Sending remotely scheduled trips to the car’s navigation system on the smartphone saves time. The same goes for quickly finding parking at the destination. The navigation system is pre-programmed to recognize voice instructions for added convenience and safety. And with TomTom, the maps are automatically kept up to date.
Plan a charging stop along the route depending on the desired battery charging status upon arrival at the destination. By scheduling the trip in MyPeugeot, customers can recharge their car at the most convenient times and locations.
Remotely turn on the lights, operate the central locking system and activate the horn. Allows customers to check that their car is properly locked without being nearby, or easily locate it in a large parking garage or in the dark.
No worries about finding a parking spot because the car recommends parking lots or parking garages near the destination with the most available spots.
Ability to program pre-conditioning and remotely monitor, schedule, start or terminate battery charging .
