Abarth on the SUV? Yes, of course! This is the Abarth Pulse
New era for Abarth
Abarth is embarking on a completely new era. The new, all-electric Abarth 500e enriches the model range and with the new Abarth Pulse the brand enters the Brazilian market for the first time. So Abarth is pushing hard to strengthen its footprint internationally. The Abarth Pulse should help with that. Technical details are not yet known. We must make do exclusively with photographs. The market launch of the Abarth Pulse will take place in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Latin American market
“Abarth’s return to the Latin American market is a source of great pride for us. The Abarth Pulse is just the beginning and we want to continue to complete the family. We couldn’t be happier with the positive momentum created in Latin America, first by the Fiat Pulse and now by the Abarth Pulse,” said Oliver Francois, Chief Executive Officer and Global Chief Marketing Officer for Fiat & Abarth at Stellantis.
The top executive continued: “We are celebrating a milestone in Abarth’s history: the European introduction of the first electric Abarth based on the new 500e and the launch of the brand in Brazil with the new Abarth Pulse. The new Abarth 500e is one of the most exciting introductions in the brand’s history and a great new addition to the model range. I like to think of it as a family, with our fans involved every step of the electrification of the brand.”
Future plans
“You may be wondering ‘why electric?’,” Francois continued. “The answer is actually: performance. Everything Abarth has changed about the car is about the best driving performance. That’s exactly the way our founder Carlo Abarth always did. From that point of view, nothing has actually changed. The new Abarth 500e offers better acceleration, better handling and more driving pleasure. Even the legendary Abarth sound has been retained. All this is also part of Abarth’s global expansion. The new Abarth Pulse for Brazil is phase 1, then phase 2 will follow when we introduce the new Abarth 500e outside of Europe, including in Japan and Brazil. All that together is what we call ‘more Abarth than ever’!”
Abarth and SUVs
Abarth has flirted with an SUV before. At the time, that was about the Fiat 500X. A prototype was developed, but it was eventually decided not to put the car into production. The business case was not coming together. But so it does exist: a Fiat 500X Abarth, but it will never leave the factory gates.
