The impetus for Kindness Week lies with the employees themselves. Many store teams expressed how customer behavior affects their work, both positively and negatively. Internal research from 2025 shows that a significant number of team members still experience customer harassment. By making positive examples visible and recognizing kind behavior, Circle K aims to contribute to safer and more respectful workplaces. <\/p>\n
“Most customers behave respectfully, but the moments when they don’t often leave a deep impression,” says Bas Overkamp, Vice President Circle K Netherlands. “With Kindness Week, we focus precisely on the good examples. We invite customers to take a moment to reflect on the effect of their behavior and work together to create an environment where respect and kindness are paramount.” <\/p>\n
Circle K stations<\/h2>\n
During Kindness Week, the theme is emphatically visible at Circle K stations. Employees wear buttons with the message “Thanks for being kind. At the entrance and in the shop, posters remind customers of the importance of being respectful. In addition, Mars supports the campaign with BE KIND bars, which are handed out free of charge in appreciation of kind behavior. <\/p>\n
In addition to these visible actions, employees also seek conversation with customers. At the local level, small, personal initiatives arise. Friendly customers are surprised with a cup of coffee or a bunch of flowers. Handwritten compliment cards provide a moment of sincere attention. A Wall of Kindness appears at various stations, where colleagues and customers share short, positive experiences. <\/p>\n
Form of kindness<\/h2>\n
The theme also receives attention internally. For example, teams start a service by asking what kindness was experienced the day before. Small moments of reflection, which help to keep seeing the good in a world where negative experiences often come in hardest. <\/p>\n
Kindness Week is part of Circle K’s broader commitment to working toward a safe and pleasant work environment. Studies show that awareness around safety is growing, but also that continued attention is necessary. Because aggression does not disappear by itself. It starts with acknowledging, understanding and – perhaps most importantly – actively choosing a different tone. Kindness is not a grand gesture. It’s in small moments, every day. Right where people encounter each other.
