By the way, Mazda and Changan have been working together for more than 20 years, only we saw very little of that in Europe. With the arrival of the Mazda 6e, we are seeing the first Japanese-Chinese Mazda’s appear on our roads. This Mazda CX-6e marks the second chapter. The Mazda 6e shares its base with the Deepal L07. The new Mazda CX-6e is based on the Deepal S07. Mazda says it has put mountains of work into making the CX-6e a real Mazda. In other words, a strong focus on driving dynamics. For this reason, the team at Mazda’s European Research & Development Centre in Oberursel, Germany, put a lot of time into development.

Competitors Mazda CX-6e

So far, just a little background on the Mazda CX-6e. You may see it as a competitor to the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion, Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, XPeng G6, Toyota bZ4X, Smart #5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford Explorer. In short: an extraordinary number of competitors in the D-segment. In what ways is Mazda trying to differentiate itself? According to Mazda, the Mazda CX-6e is electric driving in its most artful form. The car is full of unique details and bold color schemes.

Rear end Mazda CX-6e

Mazda CX-6e dimensions

The Mazda CX-6e has a length of 4.85 meters, a width of 1.93 meters and a height of 1.62 meters. The wheelbase is on the large side: 2.90 meters. That of the Mazda 6e comes out at 2.89 cm. Slightly more wheelbase, in other words. In addition, the overhangs are very short, creating a lot of interior space. The luggage space also benefits. This boot – with a relatively low lift threshold – has a capacity of 468 liters, expandable to 1,434 liters with the second row of seats folded down. A frunk has also been thought of: it has a capacity of 80 liters. That’s roomy enough for storing charging cables or an extra overnight bag.

In terms of design, this Mazda steals the show. The front stands out with a highly curved nose and sequential lights that provide a special light show during locking, unlocking and charging. At the front, we also detect clever vents. Even more striking are the shark fin-shaped digital side mirrors and the air ducts in the floating D-pillars. Speaking of which, that panel is made of plastic because it is almost impossible to make out of metal. These openings have a function primarily for stability, rather than lowering drag. Underneath, the whole thing looks powerful and almost like a sculpture.

Side Mazda CX-6e

These colors are available

Mazda delivers the new CX-6e in several colors, of which Nightfall Violet is by far the most striking. Is this paint with purple glow a little too pronounced for you? Don’t panic, you can also choose from Air Stream Blue, Crystal White Pearl, Jet Black, Aero Grey, Machine Grey and – how could it be otherwise – Soul Red Crystal. All versions have a black roof, creating a two-tone color scheme. Of course, Jet Black does not have that effect. There is a choice of 19-inch alloy wheels with an aerodynamic 5-spoke design (standard for the Takumi version) or 21-inch alloy wheels with a dual 5-spoke design (optional for Takumi and standard for Takumi Plus).

Interior colors

In the interior of the Mazda CX-6e, there is also something to choose from. There is a choice of warm beige or black faux leather (Maztex) in the Takumi. You can choose from two-tone amethyst or white faux leather in the Takumi Plus. Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz, a mineral known for its various shades of purple, from light lavender to deep violet. By the way, the Takumi Plus version also has heated and ventilated seats, for both front and rear passengers.

Interior Mazda CX-6e

Equipped with panoramic sunroof as standard

And speaking of equipment, all models in the Mazda CX-6e come standard with a large 1.05 square meter panoramic sunroof. This glass features a heat-resistant layer with an ultraviolet insulation rating of 99.7 percent. Too much light? At the touch of a button, the roller blind conjures the panoramic roof away.

Welcome Mode

When the CX-6e detects the key nearby, it automatically enters welcome mode. Then what happens? The doors unlock automatically , the door handles emerge, the side mirrors flip out and the front and rear lights put on a light show. After opening the door, the driver’s seat slides back 100 mm to facilitate entry. The seat returns to its preset position as soon as the driver takes his or her seat. This sequence of actions is reversed when the driver leaves the car.

26-inch touchscreen

The interior of the Mazda CX-6e has plenty of eye-catchers. We start with the giant 26-inch touchscreen that is mounted asymmetrically on the curved dashboard and extends across the center console and passenger side. The customizable dual split allows both the driver and front passenger to access personalized information. The screen has a depth of 9.5 mm and an aspect ratio of 32:9. Also unique is the high pixel density of 201 pixels per inch. That yields a 5K image resolution. The glass has a scratch-resistant aluminum-silicon coating. This coating also minimizes glare and reflections. Mazda complements this screen with a large head-up display for the driver.

5K display in the Mazda CX-6e

Side mirror cameras and digital rearview mirror

The Takumi Plus model – the top-of-the-line version – comes standard with side mirror cameras and a digital rear-view mirror. The side mirror cameras – the first fitted in a production Mazda – use compact exterior cameras that transmit live images to Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays mounted deep inside the doors. They offer a 30 percent wider field of view and contribute to the Mazda CX-6e’s aerodynamics. Good for driving range, as you gain 5 kilometers in range. The Mazda CX-6e’s digital rearview mirror has a 9-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 × 384 pixels. Drivers can switch between a traditional glass mirror and the digital mode according to their preference or depending on driving conditions.

Headrests with built-in Bluetooth speakers

You get an audio system with Bluetooth-compatible speakers in the front headrests as standard. This family-friendly audio feature allows the driver and front passenger to connect to the speakers in their individual headrests via Bluetooth. This allows them to listen to their favorite media, talk on the phone or follow the navigation system’s directions without using the car’s audio system speakers, allowing the rear passengers to relax or sleep undisturbed. This is useful for parents traveling with young children. In total, the CX-6e’s audio system has as many as 23 speakers, powered by a 1280 W amplifier.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="720" src="https://autorai.nl/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Mazda_CX_6e_Germany-int-18-1280x720.jpg" alt="These are the seats in the Mazda CX-6e. There are bluetooth speakers built into the headrests.

Bingo card

Furthermore, we can bring out the well-known infotainment bingo card again. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: check! A wireless phone charger with cooling and ventilation: present! Voice recognition: also check! Ambient lighting with 256 colors that can also react to the rhythm of the music: present! Notable is the presence of gesture controls. After the first activation command “Hi Mazda,” occupants can adjust climate settings, audio functions and the new ambient lighting system. Gesture controls allow the driver and front passenger to give physical signals to control the in-car camera and the audio and navigation systems.

The “okay” gesture activates the navigation to plot the driver’s route home.

The “thumb up” gesture can be used to turn the audio system on or off, or to turn the car’s EV sound system on or off.

The “fist” gesture activates navigation to plot the driver’s route to work.

The “finger heart” gesture adds the current song to the user’s favorite playlist.

The “V” signal turns on the camera in the car and takes a picture.

The “left or right” wave gesture plays the previous or next song.

Four vehicle modes

Four vehicle modes automatically adjust various vehicle functions with a single command, making it easy to adjust vehicle status to common situations.

Leave mode keeps the temperature in the car constant for pets or groceries left in the car while the driver is temporarily away, and displays a message that the driver will return soon.

Rest mode prepares the car for a rest period of several hours by adjusting the seating position and turning off the exterior and interior lights.

Relaxation mode Rearranges the cabin for a short break by adjusting the seat position, air conditioning, windows, interior lighting, audio volume and interior lighting to the preferences set by the driver and passengers. It is also possible to activate an alarm after a preset period of time.

Car wash mode helps prevent damage to exterior parts and water ingress when washing the car: it disables the automatic wipers, folds the side mirrors and closes the windows.

Mazda CX-6e: the powertrain

Mazda provides only one powertrain in the CX-6e. That is a 78 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery combined with a rear-mounted 190 kW (258 hp) and 290 Nm electric motor and a single-speed transmission. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 7.9 seconds and the top speed is tuned to 185 km/h. There is a choice of three driving modes. ‘Comfort mode’ is intended for everyday driving conditions. Sport mode is intended to create a more engaging and dynamic experience. The throttle response is more direct and there is more steering resistance. In individual mode, drivers can set acceleration, regenerative braking and steering characteristics to their preferences. Acceleration can be set to medium or strong, while regenerative braking is available in four levels – low, standard, medium and strong. Steering resistance can also be set in this mode.

Luggage space Mazda CX-6e

Range and charging Mazda CX-6e

The range of the Mazda CX-6e Takumi with 19-inch wheels comes out to 484 kilometers according to the WLTP test standard. The Mazda CX-6e Takumi Plus with 21-inch wheels and side mirror cameras will reach 468 kilometers on a full charge of power. Both versions are allowed to tow 1,500 kilograms braked, and fast charging is possible with 195 kW. That results in a charging time of 24 minutes for 10-80%. A heat pump is standard. Furthermore, the car has a built-in 3-phase 11 kW charger.

The car’s illuminated front wing, front logo and rear light bar flash to indicate the battery charging status: six times at the start of charging and once with a short flash to indicate that charging is complete. On paper, the CX-6e has an average energy consumption of 18.9 to 19.4 kWh per 100 kilometers. By the way, you can also plug in a V2L adapter. That can supply up to 3.5 kW of power to external devices.

Technical modifications

Although the CX-6e shares its engineering base with the Changan Deepal S07, Mazda has gone to great lengths to make it a true Mazda. The spring and damper values of the MacPherson front suspension and the multi-link rear suspension have been recalibrated. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering support also went up a notch. The steering rack offers 2.55 revolutions, which should result in direct steering and good stability.

Driving assistance systems

Mazda has also paid attention to the feel of the brake pedal. Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels have also been tuned to Mazda’s preferences. The car also makes an EV sound. Europeans like that, Mazda states. Driving assistance systems and active safety systems have also been optimized by Mazda’s European R&D team. Driving assistance systems, by the way, are plentiful!

Smart Brake Support (front)

Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW).

Rear Collision Warning (RCW)

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB).

Lane Keeping Assist System (LAS).

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).

Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) with Blind Spot Assist

Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA).

Speed Limit Assistant

Secondary Collision Reduction

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) including Blind Spot Prevention (BSP)

Door Opening Warning (DOW).

Child Presence Detection (CPD).

Airbags

The car also has nine airbags, including front driver and passenger airbags, an airbag between the front seats, front and rear side airbags and curtain airbags. High-definition megapixel cameras, millimeter-wave radar and ultrasonic radars monitor the environment around the car.

Mazda CX-6e (2026) specifications.

Number of seats: 5

Overall length: 4,850 mm

Overall width (without mirrors): 1,935 mm

Overall height (unloaded, without driver): 1,620 mm

Wheelbase: 2,902 mm

Front overhang: 970 mm

Rear overhang: 978 mm

Tread front: 1,643 mm

Tread rear: 1,652 mm

Ground clearance- (with 75 kg driver): 158 mm

Turning radius (curb to curb / wall to wall): 6.0 / 6.2 m

Front headroom: 1,013 mm

Front shoulder clearance: 1,481 mm

Front hip clearance: 1,408 mm

Front legroom: 1,050 mm

Front headroom: 994 mm

Rear shoulder clearance: 1,432 mm

Rear hip clearance: 1,367 mm

Rear legroom: 990 mm

Space behind the knee: 122 mm

Cargo area (all seats up, to tonneau cover): 363 liters

Load space (all seats up, to ceiling, including storage space under the floor): 468 liters

Cargo area volume (2nd row of seats folded down, to cargo area/curtain line cover): 956 liters

Load space (2nd row of seats folded down, to ceiling): 1,434 liters

Height of floor to load compartment cover: 395-476 mm

Height, floor to ceiling: 682-700 mm

Rear cargo area 1st / 2nd row: 1,841 / 967 mm

Load compartment width between rear wheel arches: 971 mm

Threshold height of the rear trunk opening, distance from the ground: 700 mm

Width of tailgate opening: 944 mm

Height of tailgate opening: 674 mm

Frunk volume (including sub-frunk): 80 liters

Minimum empty weight without driver: 2,130 kg

Minimum empty weight with driver (75 kg): 2,200 kg

Max. authorized weight – total: 2,590 kg

Max. permissible front axle weight: 1,153 kg

Max. permissible rear axle weight: 1,448 kg

Permitted towing weight, trailer unbraked: 1,000 kg

Permitted towing weight, trailer braked (8% / 12% slope): 1,500 kg

Drivetrain data

Drive: rear-wheel drive

Transmission: 1-AT

Electric drive type: AC synchronous motor

Maximum power: 190 kW (258 hp) at 7,000 rpm

Maximum torque: 290 Nm at 500-5,000 rpm

Battery type: lithium ion – lithium iron phosphate (LFP)

Battery capacity: 78 kWh

Battery voltage: 364 V

Battery weight: 550 kg

AC 3-phase charging: via type 2 connector

Maximum DC charging power: 165 kW

DC charging time from 10 % to 80 %: 24 min

DC charging time from 30 % to 80 %: 15 min

Max.
